Yes, the other thread was locked. This one is not just pure speculation though.

A source familiar with negotiations told the Journal Sentinel that Chiefs President Carl Peterson ultimately decided to retain Gonzalez after turning down the best offer from Green Bay, which was a third-round selection. The source said Peterson wanted a second-rounder to make the deal.

The decision by general manager Ted Thompson not to send the second-round pick to Kansas City was made just minutes before the National Football League trading deadline of 3 p.m.

During a day of talks between Green Bay and Kansas City, the Packers increased their compensation offer several times. A source said Gonzalez had told the Chiefs that he would accept a trade to the Packers, and planned to play three more seasons.

Bob McGinn's article

First of all, I'm shocked Ted would go after a TE. It's not exactly a weak spot, although Lee's production is down. Surprising Ted was willing to offer even a third for Gonzalez.

Damn. I would have loved to see him in green and gold, but not for a 2nd. Thats what they initially wanted for him, oh well. I wonder if Ted Thompson will sign a FA sometime soon, like a DT to rest some of our starters or a running back. I was hoping we'd make a push for Bush.

I think he did it because the receiving core is amazing already.

If you can get Gonzalez on the field (Who's to good for nearly any LB) together with 4 of our amazing WRs or even 3 and Gonzalez together with Lee, Rodgers should have someone open at all times.

Although I do agree, a 2nd round pick would've been to much.

EDIT : Just saw this has been said about 600 times in the locked thread, sorry!

Sure you can. It doesn't make it true nor does it stop some people from saying it just because Ted doesn't do what they want him to do.

If this report is true, and regardless if it is or not. It does bring to light one major aspect to trading for a player. Just because the player wants to be traded, accepts to be traded a team that is offering reasonable compensation... that doesn't mean the trade will happen if the players GM refuses to go through it.

Ted does not leave many rocks unturned. He is always trying, but keeps the Packers best interest in his hip pocket. That's what I like about him. Him personally, I think he's a douche.

Nope. How he replies to questions that he knows the answers to. "Why did you cut so an so" ... "Gee, I don't know that answer. I think maybe it was because we were looking for more consistency out of that position".

Just give the answer. If our GM doesn't know WHY he cut someone, that is bad. Very bad. I know he's trying to NOT throw the player under the bus or anything like that, but just give your reasoning or ... hell anything but 'i dont know'.

I think the man is a freaking genius at GM and I wouldn't want anyone else as our GM. I just don't care for his personality much at all. At least from what I've seen from it.

my feeling is when "genius" type people don't answer a question, it's because they choose not to for very good reasons that are known only to them.

i agree his personality in interviews & such is ummm how do i say this "odd" to say the least.

good gawd - now i'm a friggin "teddy lover"!!! will it ever END??? LOL!
