Im not sold on jones ... and to be honest I wasnt that impressed with him. I think he did well because our other Dline and backers were all better comperatively to jones ie so they would use less defenders on jones.

I know last season he looked too skinny; ie maybe a decent ST guy but not a OLB.

Who knows maybe hell get better ... Im just glad we got 3 UDFA barking at his heels for a job (and I bet we keep one of these guys).

Why would the backlash be any greater than letting him walk in free agency?

Coming off the Favre shibacle, I don't know if Ted could've survived trading another beloved player. Besides being an all-pro, great person, and personification of "Packer People", Kampman for the first six weeks was still our most established pass rusher.

CM3 emerged during the latter half of the season, oddly enough after Kampy got injured.

I agree looking back, it seems hard to argue against the suggestion that Kampy should've been traded. But I shudder to think the remarks people would've had for someone like Ted had he gone and traded Kampman, especially after the Favre backlash, not having much of a pass-rush at that point in the season, and being the man who put together a team that had under-performed the first half of the season... I don't think it would've gone over well at all.

I don't think Ted refrained from trading Kampman because he was concerned about how fans would react. He does what he thinks is best for the Packers, regardless of what anyone else thinks; which is exactly the way he should go about his business.

I don't think anyone is saying the Packers tried fitting a round peg into a square hole here. I was saying I think it was in the back of the Packers mind ... Kampman is a helluva an athlete, leader and off the field presence lets give him every opportunity to succeed. If he doesn't, we gave him a chance and parted ways on our own terms, collectively.

Who gives a shit what a few whiny, illogical fans would have said? That a player is "beloved" is in no way a reason to trade or not to trade him. The only factor that should be taken into consideration is does the transaction improve the prospects of the team. If it does, you make the trade; if it doesn't, you forbear.

I know there were a number of fans on this board advocating that he be traded. I myself was ambivalent: I saw the advantages of trading him while he was still healthy and had no issue with the idea, but I also saw the potential advantage of showcasing his versatility before trading him. My main concern was always that he might be injured, and that is, unfortunately, what eventually happened.

If concern over fan reaction was what stayed Ted Thompson's hand, then he is a pussy who should be fired forthwith. Somehow I think he has more intestinal fortitude than that, however.

I think something that is often overlooked is there most likely was not any value in trading Kampman last year. He was going into a contract year, so why use a draft pick on him, only to have to fight to try to keep him on the team at the end of the seasons? Not to mention GB wasn't really in a position where they had any leverage, he was pretty universally thought to be a bad fit in the system. So yeah maybe they could have gotten a late round pick for him, but they get the same simply by letting him walk in free agency, surely sticking it out and waiting to see if he would surprise everyone and excel in the system was a lot more valuable than whatever they would have gotten in return for the guy.

No one said the ONLY reason or a MAJORITY of the reason Kampman was not traded last year was because of the fanbase. Holy shit you dramatic fucks.

Well, like we've discussed before, you don't have the emotional attachment to players that a lot of us (I'm guessing more than 50% of fans) have.

Yes, a GM shouldn't make decisions based on how fans will react. No argument. I'm just saying that the majority of fans get attached to players. And Kampy was one of our favorites. It's a shame we couldn't figure out a way to make him work in our system.

beast (6h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (6h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (16h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (16h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (18h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (19h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (19h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (20h) : Thank you
wpr (20h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (20h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (20h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (20h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (20h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (21h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (21h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (21h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (21h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (21h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
