I think a lot of fault is mistakenly being put on Brett. He's a victim of his own success in the light that he's so popular every news journalist person does anything they can to get his comments.

How many times has he sought out ESPN and said, I'm retiring. Then said I'm not retiring.

The man is HOUNDED repeatedly by the press. All he does is give the answer as how he feels at that moment. Sometimes he feels like he's done, others he craves the game and will continue.

Did he retire from the Packers?
Yes in part because he was mistakenly pressured into giving a response that he was returning. He was pressured by Ted and Mike because they both were "certain" he would be back.

Did he retire from the Packers to join the Vikings?
I don't subscribe to this theory. just don't have anything that adds water to that argument.

Brett felt he could unretire and resume his position because of everything he did for the Packers, he felt that it was his RIGHT to come back when he wanted. When the Packers did not warm up to that notion, he became pissed off and he was HURT which is something most fail to fathom.

Brett's appearance and dialogue on Greta Van Sustren (sp) was awful in my opinion. I feel he tried getting even with that interview, tried defacing the Packers, specifically Ted and wanted to get the fans to sympathize with his side of the situation. Kind of like saying "I want to be YOUR QB, but Ted and Mike won't let me". He even indirectly threw James Campen, a friend, under the bus.

I now firmly believe that Brett retired from the Jets with the PRIMARY goal of being let go so he could sign with the Vikings. I believe this was primarily concocted by James "Bus" Cook too. Retire before the draft, if they get a QB it increases the chances of them letting you walk! (keep in mind, once cut, clear waivers, he has to get a new contract, thats how agents get paid) I don't think he wanted to be on the Jets anymore. For the first time in a very long time, he had teammates publicly speaking out against him. I don't care who you are, when you're that big of an icon and that happens, it stings. The only and I mean ONLY logical landing spot for Brett was the Vikings. They were the ONLY team that was just a good QB away from being a SERIOUS contender and they ran a offense he lived and slept in.

Beating Ted and Mike was only the cherry on top, it wasn't the entire dessert. If you ask the press and most who don't care to really look into things, they'll say it was Brett's main goal for going to the Vikings.

With that said, I think Brett has lost some respect from many people (myself included), but the majority of the blame for the negative perception for him falls onto the press and their lack of ability to conjure up non-Brett stories. Can't think of something to write? Phone Brett or his agent or anyone who knows Brett personally and twist a 30 second conversation into a 500 word article!

I don't understand Shawn's comments, frankly. I don't see any defense of Rodgers here. Debunking an easily falsifiable allegation is not rushing to the defense as far as I can see. Arguing that Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy were trying to pad Rodgers' statistics to somehow discredit Favre, when a casual glance at the numbers shows otherwise, isn't some sort of spastic defense of Favre. No one in this thread is proclaiming Rodgers the best ever. I say let his performance stand on its own two feet.

And pack93z, that just comes with the territory. Favre probably didn't deserve the ridiculous amount of adoration that he received from fans either. Taking the good with the bad comes with the territory/fame/money.

Absolutely.. and I have been in that camp for a couple years. I grew tried of watching games and listening the announcers line up to get on their knees in praise.

My comments base from watching the overall fan base praise Favre endlessly.. then the majority turns and loathes the same man.. then start to repeat the process with Rodgers.. not pointing at any single poster or fan.. just a general observation.

And people wonder why I detest the species that is a QB.. lol.

Brett had an easier in here with the fans. The team had barely a shred of hope under Majik man and then Brett showed up and it was party time. People did not have huge expectations on the team early on in his career, like they do with Rodgers. Hope, sure, but expectations? Favre was free to drink, party, not study the playbook hard, etc. i.e. be Brett, while Rodgers has had to be a practically flawless ideal of how to handle the situation and he has still received criticism and some downright rude shit from Packers fans.

That's not "souring" on Favre. That's taking a step back and looking at his career here objectively, which has been so mixed in with real "souring" that the two get muddled.

I prefer to just look back at the Favre era as a time, and not focus on the player and person himself. A lot of pieces had to fall right into place for Favre and the Packers to have the success they did. Heaping the praise all on one individual is silly. And I can't really say that I admired him a ton off the field, because he was a wreck until he got too old to play that shit any longer.

And pack93z, that just comes with the territory. Favre probably didn't deserve the ridiculous amount of adoration that he received from fans either. Taking the good with the bad comes with the territory/fame/money.

Well said. Yes, Favre's still my fave player ever, but as an adult, I can look back at my life and see things somewhat objectively. Look what we had before Favre. I started being a fan in 1976. I remember every season we didn't suck. 1982. 1989. That's it. Yes, that's it. That's all there was growing up. Every single other year, we sucked.

I had James Lofton's stats to look forward to. That's it. From when Lofton started playing until he got traded to the Raiders, Lofton was pretty much the ONLY elite player we had.

Majik was good but often injured so when he went down that last time and Favre came in and we started winning, it sure made it easy to love Favre.

Now Aaron Rodgers comes along and look what he has to deal with. Every single freaking year we were good except for 2005 and one other year we were 8-8. Pretty much every other year we at least made the Playoffs.

Imagine someone becoming a fan in 1993 and imagine how high that bar must have been set. All they ever knew was Playoffs. They never saw the bad years and I'm sure when I talk about the bad years, it goes in one ear and out the other.

So Aaron Rodgers comes in and we're 6-10. Note that I'm not putting the blame on Rodgers. I'm just saying if you were a fan from 1993 and saw winning year after winning year with Favre and Aaron comes in and we have a losing year...

I don't think the average fan sees things objectively. It's just like politics. It's much easier to blame and scapegoat than it is to research a topic and find out why it really happened the way it did.

I miss KGB. I miss that entire D-line.

Kampman - Pickett/Williams - Jenkins - KGB on passing down is damn near cheating.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
