To bring in another kicker is to occupy another slot on the 80-man roster. I'm far more interested in trying out our new DL- and OL-men, CBs, OLBs, and WRs than giving another kicker the once over.

Raw numbers are usually meaningless without context. How many games can Crosby reasonably be blamed for the Packers losing last year? In how many did his misses make a substantive difference in the outcome of the game?

I was asking about last year specifically. I know he was blamed for a couple of games in '08, but we went 6-10 that year; an extra loss here or there was essentially irrelevant. We went 11-5 last year, so losses could conceivably be more meaningful -- changes in playoff seedings, etc.

Answer? No one knows. You are over thinking this. Crosby sucks, and needs to be replaced. Period.

So in other words, he hasn't had a substantive effect on the season? Then what's the point of replacing? To put it another way, whom can we bring in who is available and would bring a significant improvement to the team?

If Ted can't find a kicker that is better than 30th in the league in fg percentage, then we need a new GM.

What a myopic statement... Crosby missed a good number of field goals last season.. and to say they had no impact upon the games is borderline insane.

I want improvement out of our field goal unit.. if Crosby can provide that.. great.. if not, find someone that can.

I remember Ryan's last year here, he was pretty inconsistent, and there were lots of fans squawking for him to be replaced. And he was. And now those same fans are screaming that cutting him was one of Thompson's biggest mistakes. You're never guaranteed that bringing in someone new will make things better. It's not uncommon for things to get worse.

If Crosby's problems were having a significant impact on this team's success, I'd say, sure, replace him. But I don't think it's worth trying to replace the kicker who was 6th in the league in completed field goals and 4th in the league in completed PATs. He scored 129 points for us last year. You can count on one hand the number of kickers in the league who scored more points than Mason Crosby.

So we bring in a kicker with a higher completion percentage but an overall lower scoring contribution. How does that benefit the team?
