While I suppose Childress must get credit for helping build the team, I have to think that a coach with that kind of talent better put together some good seasons. I mean, c'mon, they are loaded top to bottom essentially. If any coach flopped with such a roster they would see the door quickly.

I agree. And there's no denying that Chilly doesn't have high standards for the next season. Even if he doesn't, the fan base does. I mean, there's only one way to do better than last year, and that's actually MAKE it to the big game. There's no doubting going 12-4 is a good season.. but if it's a continuance of one and dones in the playoffs.. then he'll be on the hot seat. But, that's down the road. Right now, Childress is sitting pretty. lol

I agree, and so does the front office apparently. I can't help but wonder how long he would be around if it wasn't for Favre though. I'm pretty sure he would have been sitting in 2nd place in the NFC North and still no answer at QB. I know that he went out and kissed ass to bring Favre in so he gets credit but beyond that I don't know. Favre took that team to another level which really isn't saying that much considering who he was replacing.

But bringing in Favre bought him a few more years minimum that's for sure so I guess it was a good idea, for him at least.

Of course they did, that's pretty obvious, lol. I'm stating that I think the Packers would have won the division last year without Favre Qb-ing the Vikings. Just my opinion.

That's a great question. And one obviously we really can't dive into much because of all the variables that could sway one way or another. I know the Packers were nipping on the heels of the Vikings pretty much the whole season, one game lost to the Packers last year, and the playoff seedings would have been COMPLETELY different.

Yeah, definitely. I think unless the Vikings solve their long term QB issue soon the Packers will surpass them VERY soon. If not this season then definitely the next. Their window is closing on some key positions. They have time to fix most of them but they better get to work.

I'm still glad the Packers moved on from Favre. I just think it was time. However, the man sure is annoying when you put him on such a good team!!

I wish we had signed Lito.

Vikes get an asterisk for last year. They were 12-4*

8-8 plus 4 games played with a suspended Williams wall that they loop-holed in the court system with patently obvious bogus laws as applies to national sports.

We were 11-5 without cheating, so we won the division.

For far too long, people have taken it for granted that they could simply dismiss the Lions as losers by birthright. I'm pleased to see this is starting to be no longer the case.

I thought you were joking. I like this move. But it begs the question.. Does this mean the Vikings will NOT be looking for a CB/DB in the first few rounds in the draft now? If that's the case, chances of them trading down are pretty high, IMO. Unless Clausen/McCoy drops. This is going to be a REEAAALLY interesting first round. And I'll miss it because of work.

This means that you signed an aging corner who everyone has been running circles around for 2 years now. There's a very slim chance that he'll return to his 2006 form, but I don't think that the Vikes want to go with that.

This doesn't change whether you'll draft a CB early or not. Lito for reasons I just mentioned and that he's 29, already. Winfield will be 33 when the season starts. Griffin had a horrible injury.

I just can't see you passing over a good CB if one drops to you.

The real plus here is that you won't have to reach for one if they're all gone. It's not like you're handcuffed to a CB now in the first two rounds. If the draft doesn't work out the way you want, it won't matter as much as it would've.

Well, just because the Vikes won't be looking for a CB/DB in the first few rounds doesn't mean they won't pick one.. Like you said, they just won't be handcuffed to any one in particular.

You said it yourself.. Winfield is 33. And while Lito isn't going to be a pickup for the distant future.. If he either gets healthy or improves his play, he could end up sticking around a lot longer. I'm of the mindset that very soon, even within the next season, Winfield should be moved back to safety. He's losing a step and has been known to get burned.. Might as well save his pride and bring him back to a position he probably would have been better at anyway.

Either way, I think picking up Lito very much effects the Vikings draft thoughts.

Well, I was way off from my thoughts that Lito was going to effect how the Vikes drafted. Which is a good thing.. lol

Anyway, the reason I'm posting is because the Vikes made some cuts today to get to the 53 man roster. One of the most notable names cut? Javon Walker. Right now, they have 4 WRs on their squad (not including Rice, who's on the PUP list). This begs the question.. Are they looking to deal for or acquire Housh?

And from a purely homerist stand point, I was hoping Sherels, Lloyd, Payne and Triplett would make the team. I'm mostly surprised with the cut of Triplett, as I thought he played pretty solid (would've made a nice addtion to the kick coverage unit, IMO).

I think TJ is a Free Agent now, pending no one claims him on waivers. So, no deal necessary.

I thought Javon did well for the Vikings. I'm kind of surprised he was cut after his two nice scores.
