Forget about the accusation of rape for a second.

Was there any evidence that he had sex with her? Because he told the police that he did NOT have sex with her.

From his statement... skirting the whole rape deal all together.

"As the District Attorney concluded, the extensive investigatory record shows that you contributed to the irresponsible consumption of alcohol by purchasing (or facilitating the purchase of) alcoholic beverages for underage college students, at least some of whom were likely already intoxicated. There is no question that the excessive consumption of alcohol that evening put the students and yourself at risk. The Personal Conduct Policy also states that discipline is appropriate for conduct that 'undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players.' By any measure, your conduct satisfies that standard."

Since he's never been sentenced, I would've thought four to zero games would have been a good punishment.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

I agree with this too. The freaking judicial system doesn't punish him, but his employer does? Just what did he do wrong?

I'm not saying he's innocent, but again not saying he's guilty either. With that said, I'm not sure how it's justified that he did something wrong if the court's didn't ... I just don't know.

I don't think the NFL should step in unless there's 100% proof of wrong doing or a conviction.

He is being disciplined by his employer.. just as any employer can suspend /terminate you with just cause, even if it doesn't break the law.

As the employer, the NFL or Steelers are well within their rights to remove him from active employment if it breaks company policy or brings harm to the employer.

There is no doubt in my mind, guilty or not of a crime, Ben has brought harm to the NFL and the Steelers.

He, like anyone else can appeal this judgment.. I highly doubt that he would because he would risk further details being dragged out.

Why should ballers be any different than any other working citizen?

I was going to post the same thing (as I just read it myself on another site) about the underage drinking and Ben's hand in it. That would be grounds for suspension for sure.

An employer can not terminate/suspend and employee without a reason. At least, that's been what has been shown in my experience. It's then labeled discrimination. What I've seen happen is reasons conjured up that are ill based and unfounded, which then leads to the employee (err former) getting compensation via unemployment.

If this was solely based on the alleged rape, I think that would send a very very bad message to people and the players. Being accused of something doesn't make you guilty. Remember, innocent until PROVEN guilty. If the NFL were to decide to simply suspend players based on an accusation, imagine the hell that would cause?

You'd have women hired by teams and placed in opportunistic locations to accuse the upcoming opponents players of wrong doing. The market for hookers would boom!

Hopefully it never comes to that. The suspension is deserving for Ben.

You are going to hate me, because once you start clicking on the links--it is tedious, but somewhat fascinating as well. You have to scroll down to see the "sets of documents".

Pay careful attention to the lab report documents, especially the docs concerning her panties.

I apologize for not being able to direct you to which set it is in. I read them when they were first released.

How many club related incidents did ii take Pacman to get a full-year suspension? At least six.

How many club related incidents has Roethlisberger had? Two.

I don't see why Roethlisberger got six games, it's kind of high. I mean Stallworth killed a dude and got a full season. Roethlisberger hasn't even been found guilty of anything yet except poor decision making.

Here's my take: He's not being suspended for rape or any other crime. He's being suspended for being an arrogant prick who clearly suffers from an out-sized sense of entitlement and doesn't feel that he should alter his behavior in any way to preserve the league's reputation.

None of us here can say definitively whether he raped or assaulted the woman. But there's more than enough evidence to say that he did sequester himself in a back room and arrange to have "talent" brought into said room. On the heels of a very public civil suit for similar behavior, it smacks of - if nothing else - a sense that his wants are more important to him than societal norms or the reputation of his employer(s).

So what I see Goodell doing is saying "Guess what, you little prick? You're NOT more important than this league, and if you intend to continue to play in this league you'll cut that shit out, and fly right." Given that my employer can fire me for little more than an unfortunate desk-fart, I don't see why Ben's entitled to anything other than what he's getting.

Bottom line, I don't see this is any statement as to the guilt or lack thereof in this specific instance - it's a response to a pattern of behavior which the league clearly sees as intolerable. And good on 'em for it, I say.

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
