I'm rewatching the play in question and I see Bigby standing all by himself with no steeler around him. But you can't really blame Bell he had great coverage and it took a great throw and catch.

Also Nerdman yes they say Harris is a physical corner but they are referring to his hand checking at the line not tackling. Usually Harris is the one trotting behind the play.

I see Bigby coming across from the middle, where he was near Jarrett Bush and some Steeler receiver. The only point that he's in view is right before the catch, so who knows what went on. Looks like he's supporting Bush to me, which most here would generally condone since Bush is the super extra most worstest CB ever to play in the NFL and all that.

You guys realize that you can't double team everyone, right? And that QBs will usually throw at the guy who drew single coverage? Seems like many here don't understand that.

we had 8 guys drop into coverage and 7 of them were on one half of the endzone, and it still took a great throw and catch to complete it.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

We had some pretty good discussions after that one. It'd be great if we could ask what plays was called there. My guess is still cover 3 man with Bigby being out of position.

I still cringe when I think about that game, but then it occurs to me that Roethlisberger had to throw for 503 yards to beat us, and I realize it's not so bad after all.

In the end it's all Rodgers' fault anyway. After that amazing throw and catch with no time on the clock, it was his responsibility to bring his team back, and he failed to do that.

You got me interested with that, and I came up with something I think you'll enjoy- professional wide angle video analysis that mostly confirms your analysis and assumptions. You're welcome. ::wink:

Anyway, after watching that a few times, one thing that stands out to me is that Bigby is keying on Bush's guy from the snap. Considering that Bush got targeted repeatedly and abused in that game, I can't blame Bigby for favoring helping Bush. They also show Roethlistberger looking Bigby off to the middle towards Bush. Bigby doubled the first read, and that WR cut inside.

I don't see him doing anything too wrong, other than getting a couple yards too deep. Two receivers were headed towards his zone, and he picked the one that the QB was looking at, whe also happened to be covered by the guy who was getting picked on all day.

Even if he went for Bell's guy from the snap, I doubt he changes the play since the ball is delivered to the outside shoulder of a receiver who barely gets his toes down. How does inside/deep safety help change that? I don't think it does. A perfect throw will beat perfect coverage more times than not.

I'm interested to hear your impressions after watching that video.

It's still despressing. Lol.

So, Bigby was out of position. That's pretty much my whole point.

That play by the Steelers was nothing more than a Hail Mary type one. You let your receiver run mainly verticals, overloading one side and having your inner-left receiver of the formation run a post, in an attempt to drag the safety with him.

It worked to perfection.

He isn't playing robber. He has the clear responsibility of covering his zone. He just gets dragged into the wrong place. Together with, like you said, lining up too deep.

I don't know how much of a difference it makes if he's there with Bell. If he's close enough, he has the advantage of seeing the ball and being able to close in on the ball, but really, that's an amazingly accurate ball. Perfectly thrown.

Great video, btw.

Yeah, I can't say that video says much good about Bigby, at least on this play.

Once again. Ouch. Freak play.

packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
