I've just got back from a christening (what a bore!) so i missed out on NFL news these past few days. I knew we would probably sign a player who would add depth rather than as a starter, i also knew we were targeting players who had experience in the 3-4, just look at all the guys we looked at. Canty, Olshanky, Wright, Adams, Holliday, Burnett, Douglas and now Smith. It didn't take a genius to work out who we were looking at.
I knew that we needed better safety depth and the fact that 2 of our starters will be free agents next year. There was very few available that was young and played in the 3-4. Smith was one of the guys on my list. The second he was invited i knew we were gonna sign him cos he is only 25 and played in the pittsburgh system which i think Capers is trying to install.

I felt better having Adams because of his versatility and ability to play special teams, in my book he is a better depth signing. But the fact is he is already 28 and probably is not expected to improve much further so it was no surprise that he left without a contract offer.

Smith is interesting because i felt we missed the aggression that Bigby brought into our team this season, we didn't have anyone else on defence that other teams would be genuinely apprehensive of. Smith will bring his hard hitting nature and aggression into the team. McCarthy wants to see more aggression from our defence and more pass rush. This tells me that he likes to play aggressively as a coach, whilst his playcalling was conservative at times this season that was mostly down to the fact that Rodgers was a "rookie" so he needed to ease him into the NFL. I think McCarthy will return back to his aggressive ways next season.

He could turn out to be a great player or be a bust which is no biggie cos he is only a depth player anyway. The fact that he is only 25, knows the 3-4, very aggressive and just so happens to be available at a very cheap price is a good deal methinks. It won't financially hurt us if it didn't work out.

I think we will sign one more free agent. Either a CB or a DE and there's is still quite a few good quality players left in those positions. For example, McFadden, Bodden, Holliday, Carter, Wright. All has 3-4 experience.

I like it though, I am saying it would be great if you were to write those lengthy posts as a start/finish article for discussion. You have some good stuff bud.

"Leave the man alone Dick LeBeau what's wrong with that!?"

pretty cocky, shouldn't start but good move depth wise

Ugh, what was he thinking? He had nothing but open grass in front of him, and he hops out of bounds without a player in sight?

I hope he's got that out of his system.

Im sure he wont do this again. But the fact that he had to be told that this wasnt acceptable is pretty telling.

I'm so ecstatic we signed this kid. He's a local guy, he grew up in Hubbard which is about 15 miles from Youngstown, or less. So i'm excited to have him signed. Hell, atleast we signed one guy.

Now that we have one Patriot trash talker, lets sign another in Igor 🙂

dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : Thanks Mucky and whomever created topcos for each pick!
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : Insane about Kingsley
dfosterf (28-Apr) : Putring it here so Mucky sees it. He was our guy!
dfosterf (28-Apr) : Bowden long snapper Wisconsin. Consensus best LS in college.
dfosterf (28-Apr) : We got Peter Bowde
dfosterf (28-Apr) : I personally interpret that as a partial tear that can be recovered from with rehab
dfosterf (28-Apr) : MLF said Kingsley Enagbare did NOT tear his ACL and did NOT require surgery, and that he is "looking good" for the 2024 season!
beast (28-Apr) : T.O. son signs with the 49ers
Mucky Tundra (28-Apr) : damn those vikings
