I really don't get the hate on PFF. Is it a perfect system? Of course not. They're working with limited information, they don't know what the play call is or what responsibility a certain player has in this or that situation. Various levels of nuance are impossible to know as a third party service attempting to evaluate individual performances for the entirety of the NFL.

But I think they have a pretty good process, and there certainly isn't anyone else putting out even remotely as good of information with as broad as coverage as they are. So, when people rag on PFF, I can only ask who is doing it better? What resource is more consistent and comprehensive?

I can only think of very narrow examples - someone offering analysis of a single team or a single position group, and even then, usually of only a fraction of the players on that team or group. For example, Dan Orlovsky produces some very interesting breakdowns, but the focus is extremely narrow.

If this is remotely aimed at me, you should know I'm an annual subscriber to ProFootballFocus. And I do not subscribe to any other metric grading system. šŸ˜‰

As WPR notes even if they're 80-90% accurate that's still a phenomenal resource. But since you pay for the service I imagine you agree, so I'm probably preaching to the choir a bit here.

Rhyan needs to become more consistent, right now he's very hit or miss and a lot more miss than hit.

During a podcast, David Bakthiari spoke favorably about Sean Rhyan and said he got screwed over with the suspension. I tried telling you all this months ago and you all (ok some of you) bemoaned his draft position as why he's a dud not a stud.

I was wanting to count out Rhyan and I was totally wrong for it. Though the Packers were totally wrong for picking Rhyan before my pre draft guy Tom.

That being said, Rhyan still has a ways to go

Here are the Packers current OL grades (using a minimum of 15 snaps)

It's important to note that PFF seem to value their pass protection grade more than even their overall grade.

In case you are wondering, NO Myers is not the worst graded guy in the NFL, but 2nd worst in overall grade of starters. And the #1 graded guy was picked one spot behind him. Gute, you screwed that one up. Myers did a little bit better in pass protection 20th overall of 30 quality with 50% of the snaps of whomever has the maximum snaps.

Jenkins overall grade isn't too hot, but he's #2 overall for starting OGs in pass protection. And Rhyan is 26th in OG pass protection, despite his grade only being average around the 65 mark. The grades are out of 62 guys meeting at least 50% of the snaps of the maximum person.

Tom is #7 overall and tied 10th with Jake Matthews in pass protection. While Walker is #13 in pass protection.

Note, Walker BY FAR has the worst run blocking grade of any OT in the top 40, any way you look at it, and only one guy in the top 50 comes close. And that other guy was drafted by the Vikings and couldn't make their roster, Patriots needed healthy bodies.

They landed Rhyan whom might be the worst OL from that Packers draft.

Both Walker and Jenkins have good pass block grades and poor run block grades and end up with a poor overall grade (perhaps mediocre might be a better description for Jenkins overall grade in week7?). I wonder if they weight it towards what they "think" the offensive game plan was?

But they didn't land more gooder players earlier....
