Every year, a team emerges as a trendy preseason Super Bowl pick. Do those squads usually succeed? Let's evaluate 20 recent candidates.

Green Bay Packers.

The league's youngest team was propelled forward by a remarkable stretch from Jordan Love, who led the league in QBR over the final seven weeks of the season. The Packers won six of their final eight to sneak into the postseason as the 7-seed, where they promptly embarrassed the Cowboys in Dallas, going up 27-0 before eventually winning by 16 points. They gave San Francisco a run for their money in the divisional round, too, as it took a late field goal miss by Anders Carlson and a touchdown run by Christian McCaffrey with 1:41 to go to give the 49ers a 24-21 victory.

The Packers' breakout, at least in terms of wins, just wasn't quite as impressive as most of the others we'll get to on this list. They had a 7.5-win projection heading into the season and went 9-8, albeit with many of those wins weighted later in the season. I'm optimistic about Green Bay this season and see it as a Super Bowl contender, but it would be getting much more in the way of Super Bowl hype if it had finished 11-6 instead.

But I've liked the players having that chip on their shoulder of being offended to be so over looked and I think they play better with it.

As far as the Packers offense early season struggles, the RBs, OL, and WR1 were all injured early in the season, when the OL started getting healthier, that's when the offense improved, also when Love reportedly started having Tuesday night dinner and study sessions with the receivers (I still wonder if it was just the WRs or WRs and TEs?)

I think a lot could come down to how the Packers stay healthy, how the OL holds up, and how well the defense stops the run (though the pass rush will get the hype, but they won't be able to pass rush as well if they don't slow down the run)

It's cute they think we are SB bound after one year of rebuilding. I've already stated that next year will be our SB winning season. This year, we make the NFC ship game and lose.

Sometimes teams win the Championship the year before you think they will, and then disappoint the year you thought they would be at their best.

I believe the Packers won the Superbowl as the 6th seed and then went, what 12-0? To start the next season and then disappointed in the playoffs.

Also I remember being surprised that one of the Ohio State coaches admitted basically the said thing, maybe it was Urban Meyers, at the start of the season he was thinking the next year they might have a great shot at the Championship, but then they won that year and struggled more in the year they were supposed to be at their best.

So it could potentially be this year, even if we think we're a year off.

I can't say I am nervous. I like attention being paid to the Packers. It is up to the players to rise up and meet expectations. If they can't handle a little media chatter then they are not ready to face on field pressure.

CanPackFan (10h) : Still cannot believe we kept Zayne Anderson over Anthony Johnson! This sounds like a RichB move...
Mucky Tundra (12h) : @ByRyanWood Rookie CB Kalen King walked through the #Packers locker room. He has returned to the practice squad, per my eyeballs.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Brian Gutekunst: “I’m probably not as patient with specialists as I should be.”
Zero2Cool (15h) : WR Samori Toure is signing with the Bears practice squad, per source.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Packers are signing QB Sean Clifford to their practice squad,
Zero2Cool (16h) : Only 26 / 1200 players who were released were claimed. Just so happened that 3 of them were Packers. Speaks to the depth of their roster.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Packers have claimed #Titans K Brayden Narveson
beast (19h) : Toney had all the physical talent, but his focus never seemed to be football
Zero2Cool (20h) : Chiefs have released WR Kadarius Toney
Martha Careful (28-Aug) : IIRC he was drafted by the Giants then went to Detroit
beast (28-Aug) : There is an article posted about a Melton trade, it's all fan fiction
Zero2Cool (28-Aug) : Melton trade?
beast (27-Aug) : Whom was the Packers #4 QB while Love sat? Was it From? I don't think he will get any interest
beast (27-Aug) : The Melton trade post seems to be media BS suggesting that trade should happen, not that it did happen
Martha Careful (27-Aug) : Any interest in Jake Fromm QB?
Martha Careful (27-Aug) : Atlanta waives Kevin King
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Packers place AJ Dillon (neck) on season-ending IR
beast (27-Aug) : Usually Gute tries to keep draft picks around longer, kinda like that he's getting rid of them if they didn't earn a spot
packerfanoutwest (27-Aug) : guess Carlson is not a future Crosby
Mucky Tundra (27-Aug) : Royce Oldman
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Packers released OL Royce Newman.
beast (27-Aug) : WR Health, OL Telfort and OL Glover have reportedly made the 53 man roster
beast (27-Aug) : WR Malik Heath has reportedly made the 53 man roster
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Packers also waived rookie QB Michael Pratt
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Packers have released Kristian Welch
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Busy working so if you wanna edit list, go for it. I stinks
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : The Packers released TE Joel Wilson
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Packers released Anders Carlson, per source.
earthquake (26-Aug) : Looks like Packers are trading a ’25 7th round pick for QB Malik Wills (’22 3rd round, Tenn). Clifford and/or Prat likely out
earthquake (26-Aug) : Fields may be the starter anyway. Russ has looked bad
earthquake (26-Aug) : I don’t think calling a QB a TE gives an advantage - you still only have X spots and if you dress Fields that means someone else has to sit.
buckeyepackfan (26-Aug) : I wonder what will happen if The Steelers say Fields is a TE. That would give them an advantage. Much like Taysom Hill.
buckeyepackfan (26-Aug) : After 3 elevations, a team must sign the player to the 53 man roster, or release the player.
buckeyepackfan (26-Aug) : The rule now reverts to 2023, permitting each team to dress a 49th player as its emergency third quarterback, but part of the 53-man roster
buckeyepackfan (26-Aug) : squad on an unlimited basis for gamedays, NFL Network reported Monday.
buckeyepackfan (26-Aug) : The NFLPA rejected a proposal passed by NFL owners that would have allowed an emergency third quarterback to be elevated from the practice
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : NFLPA veto some emergency QB rule
beast (26-Aug) : Sounds like someone was pushing for them to use two. Got so save some of the return from IR for injuries during the season.
earthquake (25-Aug) : Unless they keep 6 DEs (I imagine they keep Cox as #5)
earthquake (25-Aug) : 53 is Aaron Mosby - probably playing for a practice squad spot
packerfanoutwest (25-Aug) : does he make the 53?
packerfanoutwest (25-Aug) : who is this #53?
wpr (25-Aug) : No where did I imply they would. Use em as needed. Sounds like they need one.
beast (24-Aug) : True, but you also don't want to use all your timeouts up in the first minute of a game.
wpr (24-Aug) : Like timeouts, use them as needed. You don;t get bonus points because you have some of them leftover
beast (24-Aug) : Do you really want to use up all your return from IR spots before the season even begins?
beast (24-Aug) : Yes there is that new IR rule, BUT that automatically takes away from return from IR spots you get during the season
Zero2Cool (24-Aug) : Yes??
Zero2Cool (24-Aug) : Day
Zero2Cool (24-Aug) : Game
