If Finley is injured can we trust anyone other than Lee to start at TE?

I doubt it will happen, but I would not be surprised to see Matt Flynn get traded. Not because we don't want him, but because someone else wants him enough to make it worth our while.

Do you think Graham Harrell is ready to be the #2 QB? I sure don't. So unless a capable backup QB is part of the deal, I don't think it would be wise to trade Flynn. And of course there would have to be another player traded to the Packers to make such a deal worthwhile--otherwise they would just be swapping one capable backup QB for another. Is Flynn worth so much that he could be traded for a capable backup QB AND a good player at some other position? I think that would be a tough sell and also pretty disruptive to the team with the regular season just about to start.

When the Packers have traded away QB's (Brunell, Detmer, Brooks, Hasselbeck--man, there were a lot of them) in the past, they have usually felt pretty good about their #3 guy.

I wouldn't like it, but Ted kicked Craig Nall to the curb and replaced him with two rookies behind Rodgers.

Like you said, I don't see it happening. I don't think we'll get enough in return at this point and going with Harrell would be way too risky.

Excellent point about Nall and rookies.

I don't think we go anywhere with Flynn and if we can get a solid player in return, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Flynn doesn't have a deep arm and without that, he's not a threat to cover deep, which will take away our short passing game and I think nullify our running game.

I like Flynn, for a game or two, nothing more though.

Havner can't block half the time and Quarless isn't NFL ready (which none of the TEs were ready their rookie year not even Finley).

What do you think we could get for Finley in a trade...

I know trading Finley most likely would be stupid... I'm just wonder what do other think they could get for him? ...

Two first round picks? like Cutler? or not?

No chance we trade Flynn away at this point. The guys been studying our scheme for the last couple years and really wouldn't bring a ton of value in a trade. He's worth alot more to us then he would starting from scratch on a different team.
Lee is the one I would like to see shopped. I know there's next to no experience behind Finley after Havner. But Lee should bring good value, and is over paid for a situational backup TE. Make Havner the 2nd TE and save a roster spot for Quarless or Crabtree, preferably Quarless becuase I think we could hide Crabtree on the PS for a year.

+1 for the Avatar.
Flynn has added arm strength this year. It's still not an elite arm, but he can get the job done. He also seems to have mastered the WCO, at least from what I've seen of him. The Cardinals and 9ers would be interested in him if they were smart. Still, might get more for him if he sees regular season time.
As for the TEs, I am confident with Havner if he had to start. Lee could bring real value in a trade.

These are two very different situations. Nall was signed late in the 2007 season as an emergency backup QB after Aaron Rodgers got hurt. He hadn't even been with the team for the past two years. Then in 2008, Brohm and Flynn were drafted specifically to be groomed as backups to Rodgers. They worked with the team all through minicamps and training camp.

So now you are suggesting trading away Flynn right at the point when he is getting good, in favor or Graham Harrell or a brand new backup QB. I just don't see it at all. If Flynn is going to be traded, it will happen in the off-season, when the Packers and their trading partner will both have time to break in their new QBs. The Packers are not the kind of team that trades QBs willy-nilly the week before the season begins.

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
