Broookings, no class. Walk you beaten ass back to your sideline.

Vikings. No class. There is no reason to run that play. Kick the FG, then kick the ball off.

I teach my kids to win and lose with class. Neither of these are an example of what I would expect them to do.

I've never understood the FG thing. Isn't it more of an insult to add easy points to the scoreboard? It was 27-3 at that point, I am not sure but I always thought the "code" said you don't kick an easy FG and add points to the scoreboard. Instead you go for it and at least give them a chance to stop you.

Otherwise its an easy 27 yard field goal. This way you gave them a chance to stop them and get the ball. I'm pretty sure if they had kick the FG, people would have criticized them for adding easy points.

Why didn't Dallas just take knees and end the game or not use their timeouts if htey thought the game was over?

When has a defense every given up trying to save time to get the ball back when down. Never. How often does an offense not try to score when ahead. Just about every time. If you don't know or can't admit that you are just fooling yourself. Besides Dallas used up their timeouts with 6 minutes left. this was at the 2 min warning.

As for the FG. Here is what I see. The offense has every right to run things as normal. Run, pass or what ever as long as it is a normal event. If you call plays as normal and score, no problem. As said it is the defenses job to stop them. That is why the FG is the right call. Two other times MN had the ball 4th down inside the 15 and both of them they kicked the FG? Why not this time. For the sole purpose of rubbing their nose in it.

That is they problem I have, and why I think it was classless. All the excuses don't change that it was low class.

We agree to disagree.

Smart move by Minnesota. If they failed on that pass.. Dallas gets the ball at their own 11 yard line. What if they ran it and AP broke free for a TD? Still classless?

These athletes get paid more in one year than most of us will ever make in a lifetime to play a damn GAME. Running up the score should NEVER be an issue.

EVER.

I like what Brooking did. You can bet he said what just about every other player on the Dallas roster wanted to say, but didn't have the stones to say it. Somebody has to say something and take the heat and he was the guy to do so. Had Bill Belichick and Tom Brady did this, the media would be much more hostile towards the Vikes. I liked what Reggie White said too when the Cowboys went for that late field goal as well. I thought that was clearly running it up, as was this.

I don't think this was about sending a message to the Saints or running up the score on the Cowboys. I think it was about making sure Brett Favre did something as a Viking that he never did as a Packer. They had a chance to take a shot and they took it.

Like I said earlier, I don't mind Brooking saying what he did.. He is a competitive guy. I would be mad too.

What? Seriously?! PLEASE, don't flatter your Packers.. The Vikings coaching staff could care less of what Favre has done as a Packer vs. as a Viking.. And I'd be surprised to find out that Favre cared about it.. He's already had the best statistical season as a Viking.. That was waaay more of a message being sent to the Saints/mainstream media and returning the favor to the Cowboys for the '75 NFC Championship game than it EVER was to make sure Favre did more as a Viking vs. as a Packer.

I'll remember to tell the kids I coach. You only need to have class until you get rich.

Being rich has nothing to do with it. When you make millions to play a game, the boundaries for what is tastefull is stretched a bit. Like running up the score. As a high school player, I considered it more classless to kneel on the ball. Why the fuck even finish the game then? Even if it costed my team 14 more points, I'd rather let the opposing team play it out and me being able to actually PLAY the game vs. stand there and watch the QB squat on the ball.

These men are professionals. The parity of talent in the NFL is so small between the worst/least talented team vs. the best/most talented team. That's not even factoring in this game is in the PLAYOFFS. Where, the talent supposedly is at it's most even between teams.

But, to each his own. I'd rather have a coach that'll run up the score and have that killer instinct (and hurt feelings along the way) than a weak kneed coach (Denny Green) that sits on the ball before halftime with the all time best scoring offense in the 2nd biggest game of the year. 100% of the time.

Heh. Next time I go bowling, if I'm beating the other guy really badly, I'll just throw gutterballs for my 9th and 10th frames.

That would make me a classy guy. :thumbright:

Like it or not, it's about the Packers, Vikings, and Brett Favre. I believe history will prove that to be the case much like it did this past off-season when Favre didn't keep his feelings about the Pack a secret behind close doors. This time though, he's on a team that also doesn't like the Pack.

It's about the politics and ego that goes on behind the scenes between two organizations that have zero respect for one another and are very hostile to one another. This dates back to the the accusation that the Vikings "tampered" with Favre when he was retired in 07.

Owners in the NFL care as much about image as they do winning. People may be shocked to hear that and they'll deny it if they like their owner, but Zigi would love nothing more than to make Favre a Viking icon. To him, football is as much as a business as it is anything else. That's a lot of money right there. It's also working right now. You said it yourself. Favre is having his best "stat" season as a Viking. That's exactly what Minnesota will emphasize when/if they go onto win the Super Bowl this year or next.

The players, coaches, and owners involved in this game have no connection to the 75 Vikings/Cowboys game. The owners are not the same and neither are 99% of the people involved in either organization. They don't care about that. There is no connection. There is one to Green Bay though.

The fact is, Favre had a chance to pad his stats, which he's done all year, and took it. This is nothing different than what the Packers have done with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. It's called having your cake and eating it too. That's what the Vikes and Favre are doing right now.

EDIT

I want to make one thing clear though. Priority one for Minnesota is to win the football game. Once the game is in hand, as this one clearly was, that's when you see the stuff I described above get factored in.

Padding stats, and doing so to rub it in to the division rival are two different things.. And I feel you are looking far too much into the stat padding.

BTW, I know the players could have cared less about the '75 NFC game.. but karma's a bitch, eh?

I see five times during the season where MN was ahead by less than they were with Dallas late in the game, deep in the opponents side of the field, after their opponent was out of TO and each time they ran the ball, took a knee or kicked a FG. Not once did they go for the endzone. There were many other times they were ahead in their own end of the field and took a knee also. Didn't try to push the field and score either.

Changing here was very unsportsmanlike and classless.

beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
