Yer problem, Dave, is that you're one of those "can do" people.

Whereas too much of this is being done/administered/run by "can't do" people.

Add in the stupid "we gotta save 'our' people first" stuff and the moronic politicians looking for photo ops showing their "compassion," and you get the usual clusterfuck.

And of course these being people who average something like $5 USA income per year, no way is any political "humanitarian" action going to be sustained anything like the time it has to be. (And this isn't bashing the Obamoids -- the number of politicos who are going to care about this country for more than a month or so, of either party, is going to number in the teens.

In another era where such wouldn't be attacked as "postcolonial adventurism" or similar nonsense, I'd just send in the Marines/Army/Navy types to set up logistics and stop looting/etc., and then get out of the way for the churches, Doctors w/o Borders, WalMart, etc. to come in and do their thing.

(And if I were the Haitian president, I'd tell all the politicians they have no entrance visa for at least six months after the disaster.)

Instead, we'll dick around and pontificate about our compassion, and eventually start blaming Obama or Bush or (whichever moron we call "them")....and Haiti will see the USA government as an untrustworthy piece of shit.

Me, I'd put my hopes for Haiti on the private charities, the Doctors without Borders, the Samaritan's Purse, those sorts.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

This morning I saw where they are developing a strategy to "drop it where they aren't". Water and food in places where people are not congregated.

The analogy given was "Build it and they will come." This will supposedly prevent riots.

They could have done this 3 days ago via air drops, and could have been doing it continuously. Am I to seriously infer that they are first landing this stuff at the airport, warehousing it, then picking it up via helicopter and dropping it...4 days after the quake? I HOPE it is but one of the methodologies being employed from the carrier, not the airport, but were I a betting man, I'd bet that the shit is coming from the airport.

I also want to know how that strategy is going to help the sick, injured, elderly and children. Sounds more like a great idea to supply only the most able-bodied. I have no problem with them dropping these supplies, but damn is it late, and too narrowly focused. I get a deepening sense that no one knows what the fuck they are doing. In the meantime, all those people lay buried under the rubble, dying, (or most likely mostly dead) along with all the injured that are receiving little or no care, alongf with everyone thirsty and hungry.

Piss poor operation, so far, and the so far is costing tens of thousands of lives.

This is why I trust no *political* solution, from either party. You don't formulate strategy after the disaster hits. You've got your strategy set up beforehand (that's what the word "preparedness" means). And then you go forth and kick the crap out of the disaster.

I don't profess to be an expert...but if I were in the business of "preparedness" I'd have some sort of tiered strategy in place:
i. do within 60 minutes.
ii. do within 6 hours.
iii. do within 12 hours.
iv. do within 24 hours.
iv. do within 48 hours.
etc.

I mean, earthquakes and hurricanes and other "natural" disasters aren't like terrorists and tin pot dictators and evil empires, always thinking of new ways to screw you over. "Modern" society has seen enough of them to know the kinds of concerns/logistical nightmares/etc that have to be dealt with. I'm not an expert, but surely those who are aren't morons....they could do such advance planning if they really gave a shit.

And then when the disaster hits, go to their "plan", and call up the "can do" people and say "do it!"

You're telling me that you can have plans in place to mobilize a plane to land a load of shit [strike]your Secretary of State[/strike] at the drop of a pin, but you can't mobilize a plane of to drop useful supplies without landing?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The longer they wait to drop supplies, the bigger the "riots" will be. People will become more and more desperate over time. But that's assuming there would be riots in the first place. Were there riots where the supplies were after Katrina? I know there was looting, but to me there's a difference between looting stores and rioting to get supplies where they are being distributed.

The terrible tragedy in Haiti is almost too awful to even contemplate.

I find myself getting increasingly angry and frustrated by the lack of distribution of aid to the people in such an incredibly bad situation.

On the news yesterday, the cable networks were carrying some of the "good things" that were happening in the city. I was proud to see Fairfax County on the ground (It's where I am mostly "from") It is easy for me to "root" for them, and to pay close attention when they are mentioned in the stories.

It would appear that they (and other rescue teams) are prioritizing efforts based on nationality, (and class?). The 1st person I saw rescued by them was a UN worker... (white guy)

Those that have been following this might recall that as of yesterday there were 27 (28?) rescue teams on the ground in Port au Prince.

A couple of the cable news networks carried an on-going rescue effort at a luxury hotel where many of the journalists covering the story have stayed in the past. I believe they stated that 200 of the 300 people staying there are believed dead.

There were 3 teams there, and those 3 teams saved 8 people, one of which was a Haitian.

3 teams out of 27. 15 hours and counting as they were reporting.

Heavy equipment and helicopters. The ONLY place in that whole nightmare of a city that I heard of that type of effort yesterday.

No mention of what sure looks like extremely preferential treatment for the "European-type" victims.

Like I said, it's probably just me.

I know I'm gonna get blasted for saying this.. but at this juncture, I could give two squirts of piss.

I give Pat Robertson kudos. Who else would say something like that? Especially knowing how much uproar it would cause? Whether it's true or not, I don't know.. and frankly I don't effing care. Keep in mind what Pat said AFTER making a bold statement.. you know.. the part where he said we should all pray for Haiti and such?

What bothers me most is the hate that is spewed in the comments of those videos on YouTube and such. People actually wishing DEATH and such on him. Class acts!

A quarter of a million people are dead or dying and the death toll will rise because of disease. Only 2000 people died in the world trade center. What if someone said something about it being in the name of religion and America deserved it. The outrage and reaction would be so great that person would have to go in hiding for the rest of his life. Someone in his position cant just say something like that with no repercussions.

What bothers me isn't the hate spewed on a youtube video, it's the 1/4 million people who are dead and the millions who are starving, thirsty and homeless. Taking this opportunity to blast someone who may or may not have "made a pact with the devil" to get their freedom. Oh yea, they were slaves. Possibly there might have been an element a couple hundred years ago who may have wanted people to believe it was a pact with the devil.....hmm, like maybe the slave owners. Also, even if this myth were true, the actions of a few people do not condemn all. What kind of sense would that make? And why would god wait so long? Kidding me?

Some people need to realize that. That wasn't a terrorist act against Haiti. It was a freaking earthquake. Big difference.

It is horrible.

I am so proud of the way the average citizen's of Canada and The USA have donated what they can to help these people living in a lawless society ruled by a government that does not really give a rats ass about them.

Personally I donated to "Doctors Without Borders."

I would not give a penny to The Red Cross, or The United Way. The United Way has been proven to be a scam, and the RED CROSS... Well I will never forgive them for the way they made money off of soldiers coming off the battlefields. The Red Cross would take donations from Americans, buy donuts and coffee and sell it to soldiers for a freaking profit.

Ask any WWII vet about the Red Cross.

America and Canada and other countries have stepped up.

HOWEVER....

What did the world do for America when Katrina hit? What relief did they offer?

Check this out.... Especially the relief offered by Cuba and Venezuela. (No Thanks. We dont want it.)
