Seriously, why do I watch sports?

Lets say everything goes right, I get glory. So I'm part of the "lucky" in that I have seen a couple of my teams win (Packers and Red Sox). Even my obsession with soccer I never see glory (USA). Everything, three times I've experienced glory (2 Red Sox, 1 Packers). But for example, if ur a Bucks, Brewers and Packers fan. The last time you tasted glory was 1996.

Why do we do this to ourselves? I hate this feeling. This game reminds me so much of that Giants game, missed FG at the end, we win the coin toss and DOH. But its that same down in the dumpster feeling though the Giants game hurt A LOT more (I didn't think we were going to win the North anyway cause of Vikings so Wild Card and this run was a bonus). But so much hurts (i.e. that deep throw to Jennings on first down in OT, so close). You never know in playoffs, just 3 wins away from the SB, etc. I HATE THIS!

I remember after the Giants game there were many on this forum that said "Its a game, I'll go to sleep tonight upset and tomorrow I will wake up and not care". How do you do it? Seriously, what is the secret?

My stomach hurts, my heart hurts, I am going to go for an hour walk in the cold.

I'll be honest, after the Giants game I felt LOW.

Right now, I don't feel anywhere as close. Perhaps because I didn't think the Packers would actually be in a position to win the game at all after the first Q, and thus just abandoned my expectations.

but right now, I kinda feel proud of the fight back this team showed. Honestly, no one examined the fact that this was Rodgers first playoff game and historically other start QBs have had horrid first playoff starts.

Yet, Rodgers settled down and came back to bring this team SO close. I mean, I don't know but it feels like I just kinda saw something special with a young team basically almost willing their way to victory.

We put up a hell of a fight after digging our own grave... and for that I'm extremely proud. The loss hurts, but I just feel like there is so much positive to take away from it...

Guys, it's the up and downs that make sports so awesome. It will feel that much better when we come back and take the league by storm in the near future.

Emotional roller coasters make you feel alive. This game was a perfect example of that, no matter how it ended.

True true, I agree. It was something to watch this young team rally like that and I did not have high expectations this year but I don't know, I thought if we won this, we'd be riding high with confidence and you never know. Last year, Cards made it as a wild card team and Steelers won the SB a few years ago as the WC team, plus Giants too. It just sucks that this will be it for 6 months.

Oh well, it was a great ride though this season. It was entertaining, etc. WE're a young team, so there is alwyas next year.

It's a good point. I think you have to take steps throughout the season to avoid making sports the #1 thing in your life that gives you satisfaction.

Its tough to do much about it right now, at the end of the season. But throughout the year I think getting some perspective and having breaks from the game(and NFL media) helps to temper the bitterness of defeat come the end.

I feel the same way as AADP. The loss to the Giants hurt WAY worse than this one did. That's the one that had me asking why I watch sports. I never did figure out the answer, but I watch them anyway. Especially the Packers.

I love to watch sports for the action and unpredictability, plus the adrenalin rush.

I ask myself the same thing after every heartbreak.

I've never seen any of the sports teams I follow have a major success.

Green Bay Packers: Didn't start following them until 2004, seen them knocked out of 2 wild-card playoffs and 1 NFC championship. Never seen them in a Super Bowl.

Western Bulldogs (Aussie Rules): Been following them all my life (born 1992), seen them knocked out of countless finals, mainly 4 preliminary finals in 1998, 1999, 2008 and 2009. Never seen them in a Grand Final.

My soccer teams suck, Australia is useless and so are Hull City in the English Premier League.

But yet, I stick with them all, hoping one day that they'll finally win something of note.

I'm with greg and aadp...i wanted to throw up after the giants...where I never got too upset after the 2nd half of this one. They fought back to create one of the most exciting playoff games in recent memory. It was a game that could have gone either way e.g. if rodgers hits jennings on first pass of OT.

I have loved watching this team this year, the fight, desire, passion, improvement, resolve, etc. and see a tremendous amount of upside. I am actually stunned by how good I feel after a playoff loss.

Zero2Cool (20h) : Johnson didn't make it until 2020. Ring 2023. 🤷 Personally, he should have been in years prior to Hall.
Zero2Cool (20h) : HUMP DAY
beast (21h) : Guys that have a good shot at making the NFL Hall of Fame usually get into their teams pretty fast
beast (21h) : Yeah, but is Kampman and the others in the NFL Hall of Fame?
Zero2Cool (21h) : Johnson was Hall of Fame, 2020. Should haev been in Ring a year later, not three years.
Zero2Cool (21h) : I could be wrong there though

Zero2Cool (21h) : I guess I see players in Packers Hall come way later
beast (21h) : Yeah, usually teams hall of fames are a much lower bar than the NFL
Zero2Cool (21h) : is it uncommon for Hall before Ring?
Zero2Cool (21h) : S Xavier McKinney named first-team All-Pro by NFLPA
beast (23h) : I missed it, sorry, but he got into the NFL Hall of Fame years before that
Zero2Cool (23h) : Jones took his sweet ole time!
Zero2Cool (23h) : Yeah, he's in the ring of honor, just saw video and his name is up there
Zero2Cool (23h) : Didn't they have a thing in 2023 for Jimmy's ring of honor? I swear I saw it
beast (23h) : Though if they're legitimately trying to re-sign MM, then it makes sense.
beast (23h) : Jerry Jones still hasn't put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor, but he's in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Jones is petty
Mucky Tundra (8-Jan) : Unless the Cowboys are planning an extension, seems kinda petty
beast (8-Jan) : Cowboys denied Bears request
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : From what I'm reading, MM is under contract through the 14th of January; after that he's free game
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : McCarthy let go or not extended??
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Chicago Bears have asked the Dallas Cowboys permission to interview Mike McCarthy for head coaching vacancy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : The winners page that is

Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Missed FG into a Lions TD; that'll do pig, that'll do
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : That might be it for the Vikings
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Oh so the refs do know what intentional grounding is
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : what the hell was that Goff?! Not much pressure and he just air mails it to Harrison
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : They really need to to get rid of the auto first down for illegal contact
Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Even when GB got pressure he was throwing darts; vs no pressure on that last pass he just air mails an open guy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : didn't have guys in his face ... pressure makes difference
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Where was this Darnold vs GB?
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : BALL DON'T LIE
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : how was that not a safety? Goff throws it at an offensive lineman
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Zero, I thought that was a given! ;)
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Zero I looked through earlier and noticed the same thing. Bonkers year. I just wonder if beast put any money on games
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : I'm hoping for BLOODBATH. Pummel one another.
