Jolly court appearance reset for March 25
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel

March 8, 2010 12:34 p.m. |(6) Comments

Green Bay - The pre-trial hearing in the felony drug possession case of Green Bay Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly today was reset again for March 25.

The delay was again requested by Jolly's attorney.

Whenever the hearing actually proceeds, a trial date may be set.

Jolly was arrested July 8, 2008 for possessing more that 200 grams of codeine.

Jolly's agent, Brian Overstreet, told the Journal Sentinel on March 2 that they intend to go to trial.

Were not after a plea agreement, were after not guilty, Overstreet said. Were still confident about that. We just feel very strongly about it and Ill leave it at that.

LOL I saw this post and was ready to start screaming for the Pack to give Jolly the boot since I thought it was another recent drug charge. I will be interested to see what happens at the trial.

Speaking of possible DL guys missing four games... anyone have an update of the Williams Brothers legal case to avoid their 4 game banned (which they should get just like any other player in the NFL if they break those rules)

PURE codeine has no odor... but nether does PURE alcohol....

yet people claim to be able to smell alcohol on another person... when really it's the flavoring that's mixed with the alcohol...

If a flavoring or smell is connected enough with an object then officers connect the smell with the object.

and often times the codeine and alcohol people get are NOT pure... they're mixed with something else for a flavor because it adds something extra and people can charge more for it...

It's like you see people buying sodas when their is a water fountain near and it's free water which is also better for you.... but people go for the most costly flavor....

So officers smell the favoring and this is often and commonly used in cases and can often times the difference between getting a warning and going to jail...

Now did you officers really smell something or are they just BSing... I don't think anyone but them truely knows... but they seem to of found something....

He is a target. Just like Ben Roethlisberger.

Fact is there are far too many young, sexy, good looking, 200 gram bags of codeine out there who just want the opportunity to be near an NFL player. They will do what ever they can to get near a professional athlete.

I say Jolly never laid a hand on her.

Innocent.

This is a very weak case, imo.
First of all, it's based on "four black guys in a car." Then on the "odor of codeine," which as per my experts at www.drugwar.com HAS no odor.
Then they are taking all the sizzurp in the vehicle and putting it on Jolly, since he was the "driver." But they weren't driving. There was no driver. They were parked.
I don't see this going anywhere. I'd fear the Commish more than the law.

I remember hearing that they actually found a cup of codeine in the cup holder of the car. The good part about the case is that there were more people in the car than just him, but he got pinned with it because he was in the driver seat. I also thought I read that another person got charged with possession of marijuana but I could be wrong.

I'm also pretty sure that if the key is in the ignition they can charge you with a DUI even if the car is still parked but I could be wrong.

According the probable cause affidavit in the case:
A semi-automatic weapon was found on the floor in front of one passenger, Clifton Dallas, now 22. He was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon. The charges were later dismissed.
Marijuana was found on another passenger, Purvis Lee, now 23. He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to possession. Another passenger was released at the scene.
The officers found a Dr Pepper bottle in the left cup holder of the center console next to two Styrofoam cups containing soda and ice. The officers said the cups and the bottle all emitted strong odors of codeine.

Still not sure about the ignition thing.

Can't we get this thing to Wisconsin? Don't we have any of those Minnesota-style judges?

It was a dumb thing to do. I doubt that they get him, I'm going with a lack of evidence or that friend taking part of the blame, but if they do, this might be the end of Jolly (in GB).
