He didn't say it precisely that way, but he tells you precisely why they are.

Enjoy.

You'll have that in these kinds of debates. It's the kind of thing that gets unqualified people elected.

Don't be fooled, Foster. I didn't vote for Franken (God I was pissed to find he 'won' the 7th recount). And I was too young (and I believe I was living in WI) at the time of Jesse 'The Body' Ventura's run for Gov'na

I wasn't ragging on you. I was ragging on Mr. Ad hominem. Your residency and allegiences got sorta caught up in the collateral damage department. :thumbleft:

I don't even care that much about the actual debate, relatively speaking.

It isn't that I don't care about all the opportunists and their lemmings, I happen to concern myself with important things.

Your president is about to park an existential threat in your backyard, and most don't even know or care. I guess they are too busy worrying about global warming.

You'll notice, though. You will notice when it is such a pain in your ass to get on an airplane in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Madison or O'hare. The feds will have already noticed, you will see.

You will notice when the world reports on the trials in the Federal courtroom in Rockford. You will notice when someone comes to the realization that just maybe creating a couple thousand political patronage jobs for the state of Illinois is a pretty shitty trade-off for putting your region in the cross-hairs of an international jihad.

The murdering terrorists (ahem, allegedly) presently residing in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba are coming to Thomas, Illinois. What's that, about 70 miles from the Wisconsin border?

Good news is, you can get terrorism insurance for your home these days...It sells hot and heavy in this region. I'm sure your insurance agent will be calling...we all thought it a tad bit far-fetched also.

Global warming, lol

Laugh if you want, but I called the Tiger quitting thing. :thumbleft:

I think it is a legitimate concern. I have seen the argument that temperatures have been proven to change when man was not here, but there is clear evidence that the layer that protects us from UV sun rays (cant remember the name of it right now) is being damaged. How is that not cause for concern? I think something needs to be done. Better safe than sorry, right? Oh and I need that layer in the sky to protect me from the sun as much as possible, I can't get tan, I only Burn!!! 😞

David....the reason i get so upset at this kind of garbage is that millions upon millions of dollars are being spent to "combat" this non existant thing. They use it to get people to donate their hard earned money, they use it as an excuse to raise your taxes. And in fact there is nothing that mankind can do to regulate the temperature of the earth.
So the current trend is that the temperature is going up a little. The earth has ALWAYS gone through temperature phases. Sometimes a little warmer, sometimes a little colder.
But the normal temp swing is being used to control and scare people. Is that the right thing to do?
I used AL Gore because he has been one of the main caractures running around with "The sky is falling!" attitude. Making films, "preaching" about it. It has nothing to do with his political standing.
I respected president Kennedy. He was a Democrat. I choose who i vote for based on what they stand for, not DEm or Rep. If Joe Liebermann would have run, i would have voted for him.
Yes, it's true the "liberal" side is the one spreading this whole global warming scare, and so far i have'nt seen any conservatives saying it's true.

I'm against the money making scheme and the brain washing of our children.
Does that make me a bad guy?

"Trippster" wrote:

Al, have you seen Gore's "inconvenient truth"? He has been of this thought since he was in college. and the science behind what he is saying is pretty factual. Also, what is you opinion about the iceberg that is floating toward new zealand? It is bigger than the size of Manahtten. I wouldn't just poo poo the whole thing. If Gore is even half right, our children and grandkids are in for some serious issues. You comments are similar to saying that our deficit is no big deal. We have had them before and will have them again.

"Cheesey" wrote:

Again, "cherry picking" stuff that agrees with what he wants it to agree with, ignoring all else.
And, so what if the temp IS going up? Do you REALLY believe that man has ANY control over it? Thats like an ant thinking it has control over the Empire State Building.
And again, i ask you, WHAT does man think his little "green" living will do? Turn the temp DOWN on the planet and stop the iceburg?
And AGAIN i ask, what is an "ideal" temp for the planet, anyway? And how do we stop it from going TOO low? If these man made ideas supposedly work, won't it lower the planet temp and just keep going? How will they then stop that??? Oh....i know...."GLOBAL FREEZING! WE ALL ARE GONNA FREEZE!!!"
That will be next generation's scare. And "reason" to raise taxes on the citizens.
As far as comparing that to the nation's deficit, thats not a fair comparison. The debt we DO have control over, the planet's temperature, no control.
I can see it now...."Cheesey doesn't care about the planet!"
Not true. But there are things we can control, and there are things we can't control. God has kept the earth spinning this long, i think He will keep it spinning as long as HE wants. Reguardless of how many SUV's we have.
It's money Tripp, and I'm surprised you don't see that.

Oh.....and by the way........just how many houses and family SUV's does AL Gore have????
"Mr. Planet" has more then he surely needs.
Why doesn't he give his millions away to "save" the planet? He's living a life of ease. If he REALLY cared as much as some seem to think he does, why doesn't he buy a 2 bedroom house, have one small car, and give his millions and homes to "help save the earth!" (I know the real reason why)
I guess it's up to the "little people" (the non rich) to "give till it hurts".
All these celebs touting "save the planet" yet they all have more then they need to live on. They drive their fancy cars, live in homes big enough to house 50 people, and snub their noses at us.
I have no respect for those that don't walk the walk.
I don't begrudge them their riches, unless they are expecting ME to do without while they polute and waste left and right.
I can't afford one of those high priced hybrid cars. If AL Gore wants me so do my share, why doesn't he buy me one? I'll gladly drive it then.

Cheesey - I'm pretty much to the Right of every single person on this forum. So far from a liberal, needless to say.

I also hate Al Gore more than anyone else on this forum. His wife is the person who got me into politics in the first place.

I still believe in global warming. No, it's not 100% conclusive but NOTHING is 100% conclusive except for simple mathematics. That's just something scientists have to deal with.

Very simply, the average global temperatures near the surface are increasing and have been increasing since the middle of last century. How much is caused by man and how much is caused by natural causes? That's the debate. What is also up for debate is how much damage global warming would cause.

Now, why does this cause so much discomfort for some people?

"zombieslayer" wrote:

The earth might be getting warmer. So?
We should pour trillions of dollars into it? Even though there is NO proof that man has ANYTHING to do with it in the first place? Just piss away money and time that could be used for something constructive. That's government for you.
AL Gore-he makes a movie, using only things that seem to back up what he's saying. Gee......who hasn't seen people with an agenda do this before??? Does anyone think he's going to put anything in his movie that shows what a load of crap it is?
I could go around the world, and promote a movie titled "Only WHITE people commit violent crimes!"
And take data from Police reports and film hundreds of white criminals in prison all over the world. Would that mean it was true? Of COURSE I wouldn't place any hispanic or black criminals in my movie.
Makes as much sense as AL Gore's "An inconvienient truth".

Yes.....the earth might be getting warmer. How much is controled or caused by man? I doubt if it's measureable. And i doubt if we can do anything to control it.
Like i said before, taking care of our land and air IS important. But all i can see from those in power is plain old fashioned greed. THAT is what moves them. Filling their collective pockets.
Again, i ask.....IF they can make the temperature go down, how will they then stop it from going too cold??? How will they know what the "ideal" temp is? The same people that think the earth is "millions of years old" think that the little specks we are will somehow destroy the earth in the next few years if we don't stop driving SUV's and don't recycle enough.
It just boggles my mind how people can buy into all that.
