2010 draft is deep for OT's.

Perhaps package Kampy in a trade to trade up to get a blue chipper and another solid prospect.

Here's the thing though RP - Ted has drafted 10 linemen (9 in between rounds 2-5). Of them, only Sitton is making a contribution at the moment.

McGinn makes a good point in wondering if Ted Thompson can scout quality o-linemen - history suggests he can't.

For the record, I was also thinking of using Kampman to get a quality young T - draft or trade.

Well, keep in mind that Mike McCarthy had been requesting "smaller quicker" OL until last year, at which time he changed his mind and decided he wanted bigger tougher power type guys. Since then, TT's gotten Sitton, Lang, Meredith.

I think the bigger contribution to this is the position coaches unable to develop solid lineman out of 10 chances plus another couple via FA pickups and UDFA... I think the bigger problem lies here.

You can see that in lack of fundamentals and communication issues..

I'm going to beat this one again ... I think the big problem is a coaching staff teaching a scheme they aren't familiar with.

Coaches teaching scheme they don't know

Ted's first year here I believe he drafted a few big OL. I'd have to look to know for sure.

Edit,

Junius Coston

Good call, I have been stating this for a while.

Ted can get the guys if the right guys are requested.

top of my head
T.J. Lang
Daryn Colledge
Josh Sitton
Spitz before his injury

Sitton is the only one making a consistent contribution at the moment. Spitz was okay at G, nothing special (can't judge at C). Colledge is way too inconsistent.

Lang I'll concede on since he's had to learn on the fly and still done decent when called upon.

Fair point you and 93z make about coaching.

Here is my thing though, can Philbin really not teach ZBS? Based on what I've read, that was his system under Kirk Ferentz, and I've read that Ferentz swears by Philbin when reporters talk to him.

It was also Philbin who was recommended by Beightol for the ZBS, was it not?

The current O-line coaches I can understand being inexperienced... but I'd assume that Mike McCarthy would be smart enough to have Philbin working with the O-line considering his pedigree and our struggles this year.

I don't recall anything about Mike McCarthy requesting bigger guys last year. If anything, his philosophy changed this off-season when he (more appropriately Philbin) asked Spitz and Wells to put on weight, and shifted Spitz to C to have a bulkier line.

I think RT is his natural position, however, I think he may end up at LG before the season's end assuming Mark Tauscher comes back healthy. To me, Daryn Colledge is beginning to standout as the last remaining weakness of the offensive line.

I don't think Lang can be a left tackle though, but that's just based on my philosophy of how a team is built which of course means nothing in the big picture. I feel like your LT needs to be among the best overall players on your team, and I think Lang can be solid, but not very good. He's a solid player that has a nastiness to him. Nothing wrong with that. He lacks the physical abilities to play left tackle. I think bull rushers would give him problems.

Right now, he looks like our best backup. Would I like to upgrade. Why, yes.
Wtf is Giacomini on this team?
