I wouldn't be surprised if one or more assistant coaches are fired tomorrow. MM is running out of scape goats though.

I want McCarthy gone for one reason, and one reason only. His playcalling. Aaron Rodgers is starting off in the shotgun way too often, he's doing entirely too many deep drops, and he's looking deep downfield on almost every play. I won't put this season's woes on the offensive line anymore -- there were plenty of plays in which Rodgers had 7 or even 8 seconds to throw. I refuse to believe that there were no eligible receivers open short after that much time; it's impossible. When Josh Freeman had that much time to throw, he was able to find men open. No, it's clear that for whatever reason, Rodgers is waiting for deep patterns to open, and if we can see this, then surely defensive coordinators can see it too and are doing everything possible to seal them off. That's on our offensive playcaller as far as I'm concerned. Either Rodgers is being instructed to look primarily downfield or he's not being held accountable for his stubborn refusal to look for the short routes. Whatever the reason, the coaches are failing to adapt to changing defensive realities.

We probably have a better chance this year with Philbin calling games. Nobody knows what to expect.

+1 nonstop...I still fault the O-line to an extent, but you're dead on about the playcalling. I hate to criticize that in most instances, but more often than not Rodgers is rushed, yet from what I can ascertain, we're calling for/relying on deep routes, or at least not correcting Rodgers. Adjustments are the key to coaching in any sport, and from as much as I (we) can tell from TV, that's not happening.

I drank once for each time we started in the shotgun, so I am having this typed by my kids because I am unable to see the keyboard.

+1

When I rescanned the 1st half, receivers are either 10 yards out or more, or in the flat at the LOS. Defenses can leave from the LOS 5-7 yards downfield open because we are running nobody there.

I'm not really arguing against firing MM. I think the critics have several good arguments.

I'm primarily arguing that I think Thompson would see such a firing as admitting that the team is farther away from the promised land than he thought going in to the season.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Not sure I agree. Could easily be seen, as Ted thinking this team is way to good for these types of performances. I think Ted would gain more respect firing Mike now than waiting.

Unfortunately the Packers put themselves in a bad situation by giving MM a contract extension too soon. Now they owe him 12 million over the next three years. That would be a a lot of money to eat.

I would expect MM to be back next year. And expect more shitty play as well.

Aaron Rodgers played a pro-style offense in college and excelled at it. He was little short of spectacular, in fact. Why are we forcing him to play in a spread-style offense instead of catering to his strengths? We have put a target on his chest and essentially dared teams to come for him.

Mike McCarthy drafted Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers. He's clearly not treating his quarterback with the respect he deserves. Does he harbor some secret grudge against one of the top-flight young talents in this league?
