I want McCarthy gone for one reason, and one reason only. His playcalling. Aaron Rodgers is starting off in the shotgun way too often, he's doing entirely too many deep drops, and he's looking deep downfield on almost every play. I won't put this season's woes on the offensive line anymore -- there were plenty of plays in which Rodgers had 7 or even 8 seconds to throw. I refuse to believe that there were no eligible receivers open short after that much time; it's impossible. When Josh Freeman had that much time to throw, he was able to find men open. No, it's clear that for whatever reason, Rodgers is waiting for deep patterns to open, and if we can see this, then surely defensive coordinators can see it too and are doing everything possible to seal them off. That's on our offensive playcaller as far as I'm concerned. Either Rodgers is being instructed to look primarily downfield or he's not being held accountable for his stubborn refusal to look for the short routes. Whatever the reason, the coaches are failing to adapt to changing defensive realities.
