Wouldn't it be breach of contract for Gruden to leave his commentating job in the middle of the season to coach the Packers?

Doesn't really matter. There would be some type of financial penalty, that I am sure the Packers could cover for him.

And Gruden could do as well from the announcers booth as McCarthy is now.

If we were to get Gruden, why not do it now? :P

Serious Z? I can't tell because of the smiley...

Simply because anyone new has to implement their system. You can't do that in the middle of the season. Getting in anyone else outside the staff right now = a much more problem than it is now.

People seem to forget that MM has a very creative mind building plays and formations. You need that in the WC offense; look at Jim Zorn and a big criticism of his is that he (supposedly) isn't creative enough to develop different looks and packages.

There are problems with this team, but I'm not sure firing MM is a one-stop solution for them. At least not at this stage...

However, intersting to note that Pellisero - who is usually level headed - suggested during his chat that one (or more) firings on the staff may be in the works. Intriguing.... although to be fair, the performance today is the type that gets coaches fired. It was awful.

My positive: You people who were calling for Aaron Rodgers to take more risks, get more interceptions in the interest of throwing more touchdowns, got your wish in spades today.

Hypothetically if we brought in Gruden.

We would have to keep Philbin on as a relay. WCO is the same most everywhere. Some use a little different terminology. So Gruden and Philbin could sit down and adjust Grudens playbook to the current terminology, so the players don't have to learn anything new mid season.

I reaching here, but I found two!

1) Philly lost to a team that may be just as incompotent (raiders) earlier this season and are doing just fine now.

2) Chad Clifton didn't false start today, Holy ($#)%%%! :danceme:

1: Ahman Green broke the all time record today. Hopefully he won't lose 2 yards on his next carry. LOL.

2: Now maybe people will quit saying, "It's just ONE game."

3: James Jones looked good.

Realistically, McCarthy is going no where in the middle of a season. Plus, in season coaching changes never work. They just don't. It could do more harm than good. Suck it up this year and move on after wards assuming the team wins six or seven games.

Gruden might be able to work midseason. Even though we haven't looked like a WCO this season, I'm sure the quick hits are still in the playbook. A philosophy change is what's needed, not necessarily a system. Of course, I'd like to think Mike McCarthy is smart enough to change his gameplan, but he's shown this year that he's too stubborn, and the Packers are going to go for everything when Aaron drops back to pass. Plus, I'd like to think a midseason move would show the players that the organization will hold people accountable for substandard performance.

I like the holding people accountable thing. It doesn't seem like the organization does any of this. There's always blame to be passed around but where does it go? It's being juggled like a hot potato.

Yeah, what's up with that?
The Packers aren't running the WCO, they're taking 7 step drops and trying to chuck it deep all the time. Everytime he does that it's too risky.

I was calling for more chances in the short passing game. Throwing into tight coverage, not deep into triple coverage.

Green played with heart. So did Driver. James Jones got a long TD reception.

TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
