While I can sympathize with Wade and 93z.. I have to respectfully disagree.
Lets boil this down to the reason the NFL has a Pro Bowl. It has zero implications on the NFL preseason, season, or post season (MLB has it's All Star game to determine which league gets home field advantage).. So, I ask.. What is the reasoning behind it? Do players get THAT much of a monetary bonus for going/playing/being MVP? I don't think they do.. especially since there have been scores of players recently that decline the invitation (Brady/Moss).
The Pro Bowl is exactly what Wade and 93z claim it as.. A popularity contest. Ultimately, we the fans/consumers are the ones that determine how popular the game itself is.. Therefore, we the fans should have a say in who we want to see play. Regardless of which player 'deserves' it. If people/NFL players/media want to see Favre in the Pro Bowl, deserving or not, then so be it. If it's what the majority wants..
I'd be upset too, if the game actually had any serious implications to the season, about the popularity/beauty contest that the voting is. But, it's not important. It's fun/entertaining.
And more football. And I can't turn down more football.
