New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees received 951,246 votes to lead all NFL All-Stars in fan balloting for the 2009 NFL Pro Bowl presented by State Farm, NFL.com announced Thursday. Fan voting ended on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The AFC and NFC All-Star squads are based on the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each groups vote counts one-third toward determining the 43-man rosters that represent the two conferences in the Pro Bowl. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on Dec. 11-12.

New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre (880,833 votes) ranks second overall, while New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (821,852 votes), Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis (767,817 votes) and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (673,710 votes) round out the top five on NFL.com.

The teams will be announced at 4 p.m. ET, Tuesday, Dec. 16 on a special NFL Total Access 2009 NFL Pro Bowl Selection Show on NFL Network. The 2009 NFL Pro Bowl presented by State Farm will be played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, Feb. 8 and televised by NBC.

The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its all-star teams. It was the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting in 1995.

I find it hard to believe that if the Saints fail to make the playoffs, the coaches and players will actually vote Brees in. But I could be wrong.

The man still has a chance to break the record for passing yards in a season and leads the league in passing touchdowns. I think that warrants a spot in the Pro Bowl regardless of whether or not the Saints make it in a tough NFC South.

Looks like Brett is going to have to turn down another trip to Hawaii.

Just wondering if Brett has decided, whatever happens the rest of this year, that it will be his last, will he go to Hawaii one more time just to do it?

Might be something to watch for, if he decides to go, IMHO that means he is done playing.

Of course he could always change his mind!!!

Don't shoot me, just a little humor, it is so much calmer up here in this section.

Brees does lead the league in touchdowns this season, but if I'm not mistaken, he also leads the league in interceptions. heh.

What the hell do the playoffs have to do with Drew Brees making the Pro Bowl?

Good ole Favre, always the popular vote, but never attending the damn thing! Maybe he'll give the AFC side a try this season, but I kind of doubt it.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Brees is the best QB in the NFC this year, if not the entire league. He should be a shoo-in for the Pro Bowl. I've never believed in punishing players for being on non-playoff teams.

Neither do I. But I think it's safe to say that if the Pro Bowl balloting were held after the playoffs and Superbowl, non-playoff teams would not send many representatives to the game.
