I agree that they are slow to adjust. But it does seem to be a popular opinion that you shouldn't fire a coach mid season. I wonder why that is? I even hear "experts" say this all the time. What is so taboo about mid season firings?

Fear.

Plain and simply fear of change and upsetting the "rhythm" of the offense, it truly all starts up front. Not sure how they put things together from a coaching standpoint in GB, but what I have been around, making a change at a position group in ways is easier than say OC or what not and at some instances harder.

First, let me say, offensive lineman that I have been around are some of the systematic people I have ever met. Routine based, I think this is where changing a coach midstream might be difficult. I think blocking reads and calls would be a mess for a week or two during the flip.. albeit seeing some of the breakdown this Sunday, it isn't far from that currently.

To be fair, this is something that on the interior of the line was remedied with Spitz at Center... so it might be an issue with Wells making the calls.. generally the Center is responsible for making those calls. We can mark these same types of Blitz issues when Wells was starting.. and those we somewhat quiet with Spitz.

But where I think it is doable, is the fact that the oline is generally a modular group aside from the rest of the offense.. whereas QB, Backs and Receivers in the passing game need to be in sync more in routes depths, releases and hot reads. The only real tie in would be in protection calls where the Backs and TE's need to adjust based off the lines call..

I think it would be risky.. but I think it is possible. But seeing this group, I don't think it would be in their comfort zone.

I had to laugh when I saw the bolded bit. Not because I think you're wrong, pack 93z. I think you're spot on in identifying the thinking at 1265 Lombardi.

But because the rhythm they are afraid of disturbing is ... well ... the only simile I can think of is a junior high garage band trying to sight read Bela Bartok.

Ted Thompson found a serviceable player in Grant, I'm sure he could pull a serviceable LT or swing tackle out of his posterior.

I laughed.

I'd rather see us NOT fire anyone on the OL staff before switching to a Power OL scheme. If we fail at a power OL scheme, then fire his ass.

I think they are getting away from it more and more. This season they decided to go with "bigger stronger" guys. Like Sitton and Giacomini. That might even be why they kept Giacomini over Meredith.
As far as I'm concerned, if you're getting 6 penalties on one position group per game, that ain't the system. Pre-snap penalties, false starts, illegal formation doesn't have to do with the system.
The Oline don't know who the hell they're supposed to be blocking. That ain't the system.

Wasn't Philbin promoted from OL coach? Maybe he needs to go back and take some time with that unit. Not that they were lighting it up under him either. MM can focus on the offense while Philbin is micromanaging the OL.

Mucky Tundra (17m) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
Zero2Cool (30m) : Simmons put up an emoji with cheese.
beast (42m) : Not sure anyone is interested in Isaiah Simmons... Collin Oliver might of taken his potential slot
beast (50m) : I'm going with Jax Ulbrich is not telling the whole truth... he accidentally came across it? Why would a defensive coordinator have a QB #?
Zero2Cool (1h) : He's not that great, but final piece of the script.\
Zero2Cool (1h) : If we add Isaiah Simmons, book your Super Bowl tickets
Mucky Tundra (1h) : Colts 1st round TE Tyler Warren also got prank called, was that Jax Ulbrich as well?
Zero2Cool (1h) : Jax Ulbrich, Jeff Ulbrich’s son, released an apology for his role in the Shedeur Sanders prank call.
Martha Careful (1h) : apparently he did not participate in practice or play on the east west shrine game nor the NFL combine. The kid was a mediocre spoiled brat
