Publicly, Ted Thompson never evinced the slightest true interest in Vick. His response when questioned about Vick was the same response he gives about any player. It was the functional equivalent of "We're keeping our options open."

i could see bigby staying over smith but no way bush, smith has shown alot during preseason, hes a guy from a superbowl team in pitts. you dont let go a guy who knows what it takes to get a ring out of your locker room !!

When has Ted ever shown any interest in any aquisition the packers have ever made before they were actually packers? And compared to the hell no's from a lot of other teams options open seems like interested to me just not "whatever it takes" interested. If my memory serves me correctly weren't we one of about 6/7 teams keeping our "options open".

That argument makes no sense. Players with rings are cut all the time. Yes, even on the Packers.

Would really like to see the rest, but since I am cheap, will need someone to post the entire article.

I won't post the entire thing, but here are snippets that might interest you...

One of Bigby's teammates, cornerback Charles Woodson, is confident that when the Chicago Bears show up at Lambeau Field the night of Sept. 13 old No. 20 will show up as well.

"I know that in regular-season game time, (expletive), he's a stud," Woodson said Sunday

Is Smith's overall game somewhat erratic?

"He's aggressive," McCarthy replied. "Depends on how you want to classify him."

"He's truly a strong safety," a member of the Steelers' football operation said in March shortly after the Packers signed Smith for $1.485 million over two years ($100,000 roster bonus). "He's a tough guy, but he can't run. That's his problem."

in your opinion it makes no sense, the packers are the youngest team in the nfl at least going into this season, so wouldnt i want a guy who 1st is a good player, and 2nd a guy who just won a superbowl maybe lend some experience to the younger guys who havent been there before!!

makes plenty of sense to me !!

I normally would say that this may have some kind of validity to it but frankly in this case it's a stab in the dark.
Until we play Thursday night it's guess work...what if Bigby starts and tears a ACL ? OR another safety? Change of plans.
One factor your forgetting is this year it's Dom Capers defense and if Dom wants Smith you can damn well bet he sticks. ( that was part of the deal when he was hired bet on it)
As far as Bishop starting over Hawk......unless he Hawk totally bombs there is a snow balls chance in hati of that happening. Bank it.

Ah, well, that makes a lot more sense. The way you originally wrote it, it sounded to me like you were making a general statement that would apply to any team in any situation. If what you're saying is that he would be a good fit for the Packers specifically because of the relative inexperience of the team, then I would say you have an interesting argument. I'm not sure how much weight it holds with the coaching staff in the big picture, but it's certainly a factor to consider.

Mucky Tundra (39m) : @ByRyanWood How much did the injury affect him last fall? “A lot.”
Mucky Tundra (40m) : @ByRyanWood Kenny Clark said he had foot surgery in January. Injured his foot in opener against Eagles and played through it all year.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Golden is wearing guardian cap again. I bet he plays with it on too.
Mucky Tundra (19h) : All the stuff I'm reading from Lions fans are pointing at his toe; he more or less has permanent turf toe in one of his big toes
dfosterf (20h) : Kenny played through it, and a shame he gets little credit for that, imo
dfosterf (20h) : Big men. I hope it's not the undoing of Kenny Clark
