This would explain why we haven't heard anything about Smith being considered for a starting job, even though he has outplayed Bigby in the preseason games. If they do cut Smith for having an attitude, I won't pass judgment until I hear an explanation. Locker room chemistry does matter.

And of course, Smith was the pinhead who "guaranteed" that the Steelers would beat the undefeated Patriots in '07 (they didn't), and was demoted by the coaches the following year, I think because he was freelancing too much out there. I was hoping he learned his lesson after that, but maybe not.

Hopefully this rumor is false, because I would like to see Smith not only on the team, but starting.

The nutty thing is that Smith has been a model citizen in the locker room. He's helped all the other SS learn the position. The problem is that the lead dog isn't found of him.

Also, we hear that A Rod may have had an issue with him during the off season workouts which may have influenced the lead dog's opinion of Smith.

None of which are reasons to release Smith... I hope that I'm wrong too. I was screaming when I was having the conversation about this... you cannot cut this player, but if someone doesn't want you around and they are the decision maker... you're done.

I guess making plays does not always mean good play. Somebody could be way out of position, and still make plays.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I would be pretty shocked if they didnt try to trade him, if its true what they think about his attitude. There has to be a team out there willing to take a chance on the guy, he has a lot of tallent and has performed pretty well so far.

Well, if Smith retires there won't be much decision making going on.

I wish i had js Packer insider because they had a article yesterday about this very subject. If anyone is a member of Packer insider maybe they can shed a little more light to this subject. I wanted to read it but didn't want to pay 40.00 for the year.

Zero2Cool (20h) : WR Cooper Kupp is being traded.
packerfanoutwest (4-Feb) : why is there no SB Prediction topic?

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
