Well, it wouldn't take long in a preseason game behind the Packers backup OL to find out what kind of athlete/football player Vick still is. 🙂
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I think the active roster is 45, not 47. I think we have a full roster of 53 and I recall 8 being 'undressed'.

In a game, only 47 of the 53 players on a roster can suit up for GameDay. It doesn't matter what position they're listed under. In the past, we've only activated two QB's because honestly--was Brett Favre gonna get injured? Even if he did, we'd never get to a third guy.

I understand that the signing of Vick would require us to drop one of our young players who have a lot of upside. But there are players all over the National Football League who are young and have tons of upside. But we can't be so focused on development with there's so much talent that's within reach.

You guys may think that guys like Charlie Peprah or Tony Moll provide the team with a foundation of young up-and-coming talent, but you need more than that to be successful in this league. You need players who already have talent.

Sure, Vick's been out a couple years, but it's the same with Garrison Hearst and Ricky Williams. They had long layoffs, but they still produced in their comebacks.

I don't see the problem in signing Vick. He'd be a backup and probably an upgrade over Brohm and Flynn. I know some may not want to lose either or, but the Packers probably wouldn't.

Brohm would be the No. 3 QB and Flynn would be placed on the practice squad. I highly doubt anyone claims Flynn off of the practice squad. The little he has shown overall has been underwhelming. All the guy does is check down and he probably doesn't offer much upside so even if the Packers lose him, it's not a big deal in my view. I'm confident he wouldn't be picked up though.

Vick probably would be more effective on a running team and the Packers like to sling it around, but the backup QB situation is so unknown right now and Vick is the best free agent QB probably on the market in terms of upside.

It does make some sense from a football standpoint.

As far as I'm concerned his dog fighting charges are irrelevant now. He did his time and deserves a second chance. That's what this country is supposed to be about as well as the NFL.

Not to downplay dog fighting, but it's not like Vick committed murder or rape.

The problem i see with getting Vick is that he wouldn't want to remain a back up for long. Do we really want him competing for a starting job? I don't want him as a starter. I don't care if he is good. I don't want him even getting close to being a starter.

dude.

lulz.

with the amount of money they just gave Rodgers that's not even a question. the only question is: do we want/need him as a back-up QB. yes or no? seems pretty fucking easy if you ask me.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I don't understand how people seem to automatically assume he is still gonna be the amazing athlete he was years ago. He spent a bunch of time in a 10x12 cell, two years away from the game of football. He is not worth the risk for both personal issues, but also his possible decline in performance.

well i see it a different way and that is whats wrong with competition after all it shouldn't be a problem for Rodgers right. It would prevent him from relaxing.

As far as him being away from the game for 2 years can be looked at 2 ways most are saying it will hurt him, but you can also say he has 2 less years of wear and tear on his body. I would bet he probably be the fastest player on our team if we did sign him.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
