I don't know where else this topic would belong but anyone else find the Favre media coverage disturbing?

For example:

1) Yahoo! Sports reported that Favre was staying retired after the initial story broke about Favre considering coming back. ESPN even picked up this story, there was not even a source cited in this report. A couple days later Favre is "close" to signing with the Vikings.

2) ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Favre has been given a deadline by Childress in early June, just a week after his surgery. Which makes absolutely no sense on any level why the Vikings would demand a decision before they even know if he's healthy. ESPN prints this article anyway. A few days later Childress comes out and says there was no deadline. Favre is in an interview on HBO and clearly states its up to him. The Vikings president comes out and says the same thing.

3) PFT reports that Favre has already signed a contract in I believe late June. Of course this is quashed as well as signed contracts need to be sent to the NFL within 48 hours and no contract was received. In fact, I think the source was someone in Afghanistan or something?

4) And the FUNNIEST of all. All these sportswriters and bloggers posting articles about how they are sick of all the Favre coverage - is this not the most IRONIC thing EVER?! IF you don't want to talk about him, why are you subjecting your readers to the same thing that you are against?!

It is irresponsible and stunning that this story has been reported this way. And this isn't just some blogger, this is three "respected" football news sources. What happened to responsible journalism. Why not have some kind of standards. Ed Werder is still the main reporter on the whole Brett Favre saga somehow.

Why don't they wait until they have actual sources, i.e. Favre or Childress or Bus, etc. All I'm waiting for now is CNNSI to report that Favre is interested in playing for the Toronto Argonauts.

Great post, the irony of the whole thing is funny.

People state how they are "so sick of it" yet will discuss it to no end.

Nice post. Hypocrisy though, not irony. Although you could say that the surge of media articles complaining about the media coverage of Favre is ironic, I guess.

It's the off season, writers are looking for SOMETHING to write an article about. Favre's "Waffle House" makes it an easy target. They KNOW that they can write ANYTHING, and Favre just might make it come true, thus making them look like a genius.
Anything is possible with the guy, and as he and his "camp" have shown, their "word" can change day to day. So if you depend ONLY on that to write a story, you will be left in the dust.
So they throw crap against the wall, and see what ends up sticking.

It's not "news reporting" anymore. It's ALL hype.

I know, it's crazy. They make up all this stuff and then say they're sick of the Favre drama. Writers probably have to write whatever the top guy wants them to write about. Whatever will get the ratings, that's all that matters.

Often times writes are at the mercy of their editors and what they want to be written about. Editors care about views. Right now and as the last years have proven. Brett Favre provides views, therefore, editors want their writes to write about him.

The writers complaining about it, is more so I feel for their editors than for the rest of us.

Not ALL writers are falling into this category, but it's something to think about before we ignorantly start accusing people of things.

edit, lol ... kind of like what GraveDigga said in his last sentence. I really REALLY need to start reading every post before submitting mine. d'oh!
