Man to man v. zone.....it's not that simple.
There are a lot of different man coverages, combinations, and permutations. The question is do we have the guys capable of playing it. Alexander can, I am not sold on King....but consider..
There is man under, man over, and combo. I don't know enough about the styles and schemes we play to say that King can't be spectacular at man under, if he knew he had help over the top deep. He is a bigger man and I would love to see him beating the hell out of opposing wide outs at the line of scrimmage. However, you are going to be burned occasionally with this technique, but less so if you have a safety over. IIRC, most of the time he was burned, he was on an island. This situation happens when your safeties have to play too much of a role in run stopping, and supplementing coverage for LB's
Is he Deion Sanders? Obviously not. But I just wonder if our schemes optimize his skill set and compensate for his deficiencies.
I am a Pettine fan, but that doesn't mean he is perfect. Further, I think a lot of his scheming was meant to supplement our deficiencies at IDL and LB. I wonder how things would be different if we had more robust IDL and LB corp.
