I definitely think it would be a bad idea to just up and release him. He has the potential to be a good starter as a 3-4 defensive end. That would be one hell of a rotation with Jolly in there.

But what looks like "just up and releasing" a player to a casual fan like all of us (let's be honest. we're mostly diehards, but there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we never hear about). I'm not saying stuff has been going on, or that it hasn't. I'm just saying that it seems to me like he's more trouble than he's worth. there has to be a point where enough is enough. If that never happens with Jolly, that's awesome. And if it does come to that point, i won't be the least bit surprised.

I see where you're coming from, but I still don't think we should let him go, especially with the switch to 3-4. We need depth on the DL.

I say just let the legal issues go through, and let him serve his punishment from the law. Then the Packers (and/or) the commissioner should suspend him for at least 4 games.

I think that is enough punishment for him.

I hope that would be good enough, but some people just don't/can't learn. I hope he can.

I'm not going to judge Jolly on the syrup because I'm sure I've bellied up to more potent batches jungle juice in my life. I will agree though that standing there holding the shit while the officers approached was beyond stupid.

But here's the thing, Jolly played some pretty good football for us in 07 prior to his injury. So good that C Williams was relegated to pass rusher. Now I know we have some pretty righteous fellas on the forum here, but I'm sure some of you remember beign young and dumb and having even dumber friends.

So let's cut him a little slack and let him serve his suspension for being a dumbass and move on. Because I really don't see anyone for the 4th lineman as good as Jolly.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he remains a Packer just as much as the next guy, because that would mean that Ted & Co. have decided that he's cool and has moved on and (gasp!) grown up.

This is exactly my stance on the whole deal.. I don't want him to get a free pass and I expect the NFL to make him ride the pines for a couple of games.. maybe that will wake him up to his choices.

Additionally I care less for his attitude of not accepting his portion of the blame for putting his ass in such a bind.. but many have committed a much worse crime and moved on, matured in their decisions in life and have been looked up to after the fact... Ray Lewis comes to mind.

Let the NFL spank him on the tail.. let him prove that he deserves to be in Green Bay past 09.... if not.. let his ass walk next winter..

The positive from all of this is that he's probably saved the Packers a big chunk of salary cap if we do decide to retain his services.

Had he stayed out of trouble and played at his 2007 level for two more years he would have given us even more of a cap headache along with the rest of our soon-to-be free agents.

However now, we could probably get him on the cheap, if we decide he's worth it.

I'm glad more people are starting to agree with me that we should NOT let him walk just for this ONE incident. If it happens a second time, that could be a different story.

Before I read this article, I was in your camp. But reading about his cocky attitude made me think that he may be more trouble than he's worth. I don't see any signs that he's learned anything from this. Maybe he's just being defensive because the case has not gone to trial yet.

We'll see how it turns out. Packer management knows more about him than I do, and in the past 15 years or so I've almost always agreed with their decisions on these things.
