http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/06/10/favre-is-the-real-victim/

Brett Favre would still be a Packer if the front office didnt push him out the door.

Did Packers general manager Ted Thompson force Favre to retire? No. But he made it clear enough to Favre that he wanted to get his guy, Aaron Rodgers, who had waited three seasons for the job since he was a first-round pick in 2005, into the lineup. So what was Favre to do? The fire was still in his belly, but the clock was working against him.

If Favre is guilty of anything, its having pride. His pride told him that he didnt want to stay where he wasnt wanted. It was 49ers coach Mike Singletary who said it best a few weeks ago: Players want to feel wanted. Favre felt Thompson wanted him gone.

I dont understand why its a big deal that Favre wants to play football again. He should be allowed to play as long as someone is willing to sign him. The way I see it, Favre has done nothing wrong. He still has it. Look at last season he played fantastic until he hurt his arm late in the season.

Look, I understand if you dont want Favre on your team, but its hypocritical to say he should stop playing because you think its time for him to stop. What if I were to tell you that you have worked at your job long enough and its my opinion that you should look for something else to do? You would tell me where to go.

Favre is entitled to the same liberties as anyone else.

Every angle I see has legitimacy in it. I know the thought of having your 1st round draft pick in Rodgers holding a clipboard for more than 3 years would have been a bit of a sticky situation, but hell if they didn't try hard enough to keep Favre around. Perhaps a few more plane tickets down to Mississippi to check on him with gifts and free agents would have made him stop his yearly will I won't I. You didn't see Kurt Warner pulling that after his season was over.

Overall though, I do feel bad for Favre to an extent, but hey, he got to play another season, and as they said played well until he hurt his arm. Now he will have a chance at revenge, and I will be damned if that isn't a perfect scenario for a competitive man like Favre. This should be a huge major thrill for him if he is physically able to commit! In that case, when it is all said and done, is anyone really a victim?

The first line of this is all that needs to be read. Brett retired. End of any reason to continue on.

However, we will read on. 🙂

I think I'm going to have nightmares about this. It's the same whiny bitch shit over and over and over again. The majority will agree, Favre should play IF he wants to play and there is someone to have him on their roster. No question. The part that some are split on is his motives. If it's primary to get back at someone, its not the right decision. If its because he has more football in him and he wants to let it out, by all means go for it.

Favre the victim? If that's not the most idiotic statement ever, I don't know what is. Who the hell is the one who retired, unretired, went on Greta, etc etc ... oh yeah that's right he gave the Packers 16 years so now he can murder the pope and some pathetic excuses for humans will say 'its okay, its teds fault'.

Bottom line. If he wants to play, he should play. And if that's his motive, who gives a damn what team it is. Stop with all this rehashing of the same old shit that's been discussed a million times over. If you don't have something new, then don't talk about it.

Jamie Dukes is a horrible analyst, a Favre apologist and a douche. Even the guys who work with him seem to think so. Check out the looks on Rod Woodsen's face whenever Dukes pontificates about something.

Just another sad excuse for a writer trying to ride the train of Favre-attention-whore syndrome. Hey, I'll write something about Favre, that'll get my article read!!

I love Jamie Dukes. He usually has some more radical points than the rest of them and I find myself agreeing with them quite a few times as well.

I don't think that it's that bad of an article. It just states the obvious at first. Then he does indeed come with something that I don't agree with. He signed a contract with the Packers, he could've come in and be a back-up if he wanted (And battle his way back into the starting spot). That's a pretty decent price to pay after you've retired. If he doesn't want to play for us, we'll trade him to a place where he doesn't bother us. That doesn't seem that weird to me either. He's the one that signed the contract and he's the one that retired and unretired.

And you can hardly make a link between the average worker and football player. I can't just stay home when I don't agree with my salary. I don't sign a 2 year contract at my work, go into the job market and have multiple companies give me big offers.

I don't care..........if he wants to play and finds someone that wants him, suit up.
But if it's the Vikings, i hope he costs them every game.
NOT because i hate Brett...........i dislike the Vikings and ALWAYS want them to lose.
Pretty simple, i say.

Irvin on Favre: Hes like 100 years old, retire

Everybody, it seems, has a take on Brett Favres possible comeback to the NFL. Hall of Fame WR Michael Irvin said that it was time for Favre to retire for good, while making the rounds promoting his new reality TV series 4th and Long (via the Los Angeles Times):

Listen, Favres 100 years old; stop this already.

This is whats killing everybody. Every time Favre says, I want to come back, its like everybody on ESPN says, Whatever team he says he wants to come to, he makes them automatically a Super Bowl contender.

They said that same stuff last year with the Jets, and Favre gave out toward the end of the season.

I love Favre and I think hes been a phenomenal talent for a long time. But when I think about it now, I say, Stop it already. I dont mind that you still want to play football, but do you want to play so much, and you want to get back at [Green Bay General Manager] Ted Thompson so much, that youre willing to go back into Lambeau and hurt those fans that supported you for so long?

Irvin is the second member of the Hall of Fame to recently speak out against Favre. Hall of Fame QB Fran Tarkenton was recently critical of Favre joining the Vikings.

Dukes is a former teammate of Favre and often an apologists for this whole thing.

With that said I don't' disagree with him. I don't mind Favre wanting to play. I just don't think that's the big reason why he's coming back. I think that could be one of the reasons on his list, but not at the top any longer.

I think people need to realize that he wants payback more than anything. That much is clear, but he's competitive and there is nothing wrong with that. He's not a bad person for that, but it is about revenge.

Just like the Packers aren't bad for moving on. They made a decision that happens all the time. It's one they must live with and it's one that we won't know whether or not it was right or not for awhile. Maybe not even ever because there is no way of knowing what Favre would've done as a Packer last year. Maybe some good and maybe some bad.

Why do people keep saying "Favre should be allowed to play" like there is someone in the league actually trying to stop him? Nobody is saying he cannot play football anymore but it's not unusual for some folks to have criticisms about his ability. Especially after last year, Brett didn't play "fantastic" before the final 5 games last year he was very erratic and had some terrible games mixed with some very good games.

I also hate when people act like it wasn't right of Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy to question his dedication to playing football after he freakin retired and then waited out most of the offseason to decide to maybe return then finally do so... wtf
