Remember back awhile when my wife and I went over to her Cousins home in Helena? We were going to spend the weekend at a B&B just outside of Helena back up in the mountains and we got snowed out.

Well, make-up date is this weekend. It's in the 80's and no snow........so far! But this time Randy and I got it all figured out. Us two guys are going to head over late tomorrow afternoon with the 4-wheelers.....take a scenic route from the cabin (where the 4-wheelers are stored) and head south over the mountains to the B&B. Distance on the map, about 40 miles. Distance up and down in elevation....from 3,100' to over 10,000' and down again. Probably closer to 60 miles all together. Cross the Continental Divide 3 times on the trip. This way, if we get snow, we got the 4-wheelers to get around on. Pretty smart thinking, huh?

The girls are driving up (chickens) and will meet us there. Randy figures about two cases of beer will do for the trip...I'm figuring three. My helmet is fixed....the mike actually works now...so Randy and I can communicate our beer stops much better. This is a pretty good route. All on old logging roads and fire roads. No drop-offs, but we'll definitely hit a lot of snow once we get above 6,500'. We got a GPS which sometimes works, and somewhat charged and useable cell phones, so what more can we ask for?

This is gonna be a blast.

Ya know Bob, with the title of this thread, my first thought was that you and the Mrs. were going to try for another baby!

That was pretty freakin' scary!

Ok, let me get this straight.

start with two four wheelers
throw in a pinch of 40+ miles of off roading
stir in many feet of snow at the higher elevations
blend with poor working GPS and phones
top it off with 2-3 cases of beer
serve with Montana Bob.

What's the recipe for?

a cluster fuck?

Many laughs once(if) Bob returns!

Bob

If your going to stop and walk a while to check out the scenery, make sure you do not forget to wear a cow bell. Or carry your shotgun.

Have fun.

[Analysis of trip as described by Bob completed, accounting for past experiences as related here]

Bye Bob.

Damn, I'm gonna miss him. He always made me laugh.

On a related note, is it OK to call first responders BEFORE your friend ventures out into the wilderness?

j/k

Have fun!

Ah, we'll be okay. We've been on some of the roads before and they're fine, and once we get up on the Divide, we follow a bike/hiking trail for most of the way. The hardest part will be trying to figure out when and where do we get off the divide and head down and east to hit the road to the B&B.

Randy's got the GPS working good and we have radio receivers hooked up to transmitters on top of two fire lookouts along the route. Right now it looks like only about a 5-7 mile stretch will have a ton of snow, the rest up high is scattered drifts and bare ground. (wind blown clear even in the winter)

Just talked with Randy and he reminded me that about halfway we drop down and cross US Highway 12 on top of McDonald Pass. And damn, wouldn't you know it but there's a tavern right there. Uh, trip could take longer than we figure.

buckeyepackfan (15h) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (15h) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
buckeyepackfan (15h) : Turnovers rule, win the turnover battle, win the game.
packerfanoutwest (15h) : well, he was
TheKanataThrilla (15h) : Eagles down by contact on the fumble....fuck you NFL
Mucky Tundra (15h) : I think this games over
beast (16h) : Eagles sure get a lot of fumbles on kickoffs
Mucky Tundra (16h) : This game looks too big for Washington
packerfanoutwest (19h) : that being said, The Ravens are the Browns
packerfanoutwest (19h) : Browns, Dolphins have longest AFC Championship droughts
packerfanoutwest (20h) : As of today, Cowboys have longest NFC Championship drought,
beast (26-Jan) : Someone pointed out, with Raiders hiring Carroll, the division games between Carroll and Jim Harbaugh are back on (who can whine more games)
beast (26-Jan) : I'm confused, Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer? When Todd Monken, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, Kliff Kingsbury and Zac Robinson are availab

Martha Careful (25-Jan) : thank you Mucky for sticking up for me
Martha Careful (25-Jan) : some of those people are smarter than you zero. However Pete Carroll is not
Mucky Tundra (24-Jan) : Rude!
beast (24-Jan) : Martha? 😋
Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
