I believe McCarthy says he cuts his playbook in about half when facing the 3-4 and says it creates more difficulty for him when making out his plan against it.

Perhaps its easier to predict what people on the defensive line will do, but that's probably not what they should be worried about. Offensive linemen should probably be worried about the people rushing off the edge, or coming up the middle, or from anywhere else possible!!

The real side beny, IMO to the 3-4 is improved speed and number for the special teams units.. more backers mean more flexibility in those units with more speed and athleticism..

I mean, one of the OLBs will always have the build of a DE in the 4-3. We used to have two of those, now we'll have one. Our D-line will really be 3 DTs in essence. At least, guys that are as big as DTs. We'll pretty much have 3 DTs, 1/2 DEs and 2/3 LBs looking at it from a 4-3. That'll hardly be an improvement on ST if you look at the speed and athleticism.
