I still think Kampman can play the blitzing LB from the outside, maybe come on some stunts, he'll basically be playing on the line or close to it. Kampman has very good speed, I think he'd be fine as LB, infact isn't that what he played in college. Orakpo from one side, Kampman from the other.

I firmly believe that Kampy can adjust to whatever scheme he's thrown into. He is one of the most "adaptable" players on the team.

Also remember he's used to pushing guys from a stand still. In A 3-4 he's going to have some open space before he hits the blocker, and when Kampman picks up speed he's so hard to block. I would love to see what he can do on blitzes from the edge and stunt blitzes with another LB consistently from the other side. Bringing 5 man basically every down.

Don't have an issue with Kampman rushing the passer from the outside in a 3-4.. but you honestly think he can play the cover position from that spot?

He is a very adaptable player, but see Poppinga in coverage an lessen the ability a couple of degrees. To play out there, he would probably have to cut weight to increase his agility, do we really want to take our best front 7 player and ask him to change his game, which is effective today?

So if he is a liability in coverage from the outside spot, then you have a one dimensional player which offenses can attack.. if you send him on the rush every play then some of the elements of where the rush is coming from is eliminated and weakens the defense.. third option is pulling him on certain plays, which isn't likely as he is one of your best players on the defensive side.

Kampman played two years of linebacker at Iowa, and finished his final two years at DE..

Doesn't DeMarcus Ware basically rush on every down? Obviously Kampman can drop back on some plays but he doesn't need to do it all the time. He's the same weight as a lot of OLB's in the league and I think his speed is actually very good. Obviously not as good as Banrett, but I can't see him being slower then AJ Hawk. The only issue will be learning some coverage plays, but I think they'll come rarely.

The fact is in a 3-4 defense most of the time there is at least 4-5 rushers every down and then variable blitzes from the Inside Backers and some safeties.
