This is my opinion why we went 6-10 last season
in this order

- Poor up front 7 D; poor plays, poor players - and just a lack of QB pressure and run stoppage. To be honest I blame the play calling and our coaches more then the players; but they contributed. 22nd in pts allowed and 26th in run defense.

If you look at our early games we had decent D; but throw an injury or 2 and the predictable defense and you lose games.

Without Jenkins a main threat in our up front 4 you could see our D suffering; and then once barnett went down; we only won 2 games after that. IMO barnett played middle much better then hawk did.

- Penalties - now its hard to judge this because its open to human error and one time a guy could do the same play and not get called and then a play later he will. I swear it seemed every set of downs I saw us get pushed back 10 yards (in many games). Not sure what to say in regards to this; suck up to the refs more and hide what we do? ;)
A big thing thou - if our guys could protect the passer more our guys would feel less likely they need to cause a penality to save arod from taking a hit. <<< I mainly thought the Oline penalties were the main source of our problems.

- Poor Oline; pass protection to opening holes for the RB. And also the cause of many penalties to save arod from taking hits as stated previously.
It was quoted that our Oline performed 19th (sack amount) last season. Quite poor for a pass happy team IMO. What good will all that talent in the WR core do if our QB cant get a decent pass off.
And peeps wonder why cutler did so well. Arod was sacked at least 3x as much.

- Special teams; poor kicking and poor tackleing; simple as that.
was debating about putting this ahead of the Oline; but I think our Oline was worse off then our ST this year

So how was this addressed so far ...

- So what have we done in the offseason?

Fired most of our D coaches. And added some great D coaches Kevin Greene, Dom Capers, The Dlinemen coach that I wont even try to spell his name trvoagc (well tried). And a new secondary coach.

Picked 2 first round draft picks to fill rolls in the up front 7 D. (although matthews in unconfirmed if he will get much action at ROLB).

To be honest I would of liked Ted to grab up Carter or Holiday as rotation players to teach our young pups how to play and then I would of given this D an offseason a big A. But I am still quite happy with what we have done.

- Penalties; Well hopefully our Oline will be stronger this year; There is some great competition with our 4th and 5th draft picks lang and meredith. Either starters or to learn the ropes for upcoming years. Both look like great players.

- Leeds me to Oline - again some nice draft picks and perhaps some FA blood in the mix. Looking to take that arod sack # down and help our running game.

- Special teams; I've heard alot about special teams this offseason and we seem to be concentrating on it quite a bit. With more competition at the kicker position; it sounds like we might take 2 kickers into our roster. Let alone all the LBers that will play ST (matthews etc ...)

This is why I feel more confident in our team this coming year;
and this is why I feel we have a decent chance of getting to the big game this year.

A couple of bullet points...

~ Roster makeup light on Defensive Lineman
~ Banking on KGB and Harrell coming off the PUP and providing a push.
~ Injuries chipping away at the starting lineup and depleting depth.
~ Inconsistent interior offensive line play
~ Diminishing performance at the tackles in pass protection.
~ Lack of experience late in games early in the season from our QB.
~ Play calling late in games and in the red zone.. this stems off the inconsistent line play factoring into a fear of playing games to win instead of not to lose.
~ The reactionary linebacker play and the coaching staff insisting on manning them up in coverage on every freaking passing play.
~ The inability late in games for the coverage to continue to cover for our lack of a consistent pass rush.

Which leads into the holy grail of why we collapsed in 08.. lack of a pass rush due, in part to my first two points..

But do you see the pattern.. it is a circle of life type dilemma, one issue leads into another causing the whole team to collapse.. it is you know a team game with team efforts matching into winning or losing.

It isn't the solely one areas fault, but it all trickles together in the final outcome. As much as we want to single out a GM, a coach or a group of players.. it is all woven together and much of the reason 09 really will validate either 07 or 08..

Ya know what is humorous.. I could make a list probably three times as long for all the things that excited me about the 08 Packers... the things that were positive for the long term health of the team..

As fans, are we programmed to be negative or something?

I think alot has to do with how we view things in life; in general. Although I agree with youfans be be quite critical of the team they are supporting perhaps we want reassurance for our allegiance.

Poor player/personal decisions

Poor coaching

Poor play calling

That about sums it up.

For me it was our inabilty to win close games.

As I have said many times already....

A poor team finds ways to lose close games....

A good team finds ways to win them.

We were a poor team.

I believe those issues have been addressed in this close season.

I live in hope.

-Cutting a punter that had the highest net average of any Packers punter in 38 years, for a guy off the street without even working him out, a week before the season started.

-Keeping Derrick Frost on the roster for 3 months, when it was obvious he couldn't do the job.

-Poor coaching. (Too many stupid penalties, undisciplined team, inability to make defensive adjustments.)

-Playing "not to lose" late in games and in the red zone at times.

I didnt follow the pack that closely early last season - which punter was this and why did they cut him?

I agree with you on the part about playing not to lose rather then to win

Lack of toughness, lack of leadership, lack of accountabililty. We were an exciting, BIG play team with no consistency. We lacked the grit to handle the pressure play after play.

I think the play calling was good for the most part. If the play calling was poor, we would not have had so many big TD plays on both sides of the ball. EXECUTION on a consistent basis was really poor... Sign of lack of accountability and leadership..

Defense collapsing in a few games...From what I recall the run D suffered at the end of games..That did get addressed, but remains to be seen if it was fixed.

Pass rush was nada!!! Again I hope it is fixed but right now I do not know if it was really addressed

Rodgers throwing a few ints...The only thing that will fix this is experience..

MM not allowing the offense to do what it did best in the red zone..Again I hope experience taught him to play to win

#^$^%^*^*^* Mason missing 2 game winning FG...This is probably the eaisets to fix..So I am under impression that Mason knows what happened and wont allow it to happen EVER again

Zero2Cool (15h) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (18h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (18h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (19h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (19h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (19h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (20h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (20h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (20h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (20h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (20h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (20h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (20h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (20h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (20h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (20h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (22h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (22h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (22h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
