RP - I have issue with #2. Not with you, but with Mike McCarthy.
OK, you don't want your guy to fail. I understand that.
The absolute best way to help a kid's self-esteem is to win. Playing not to lose is not equal to winning, and people who play not to lose are more often than not losers.
We played not to lose against the Eagles in the Playoffs in '03. The Eagles on the other hand played to win. Result? The Eagles won.
Several games, we played not to lose in '08. In '07, we played our games to win. Result? 14 wins in '07, 6 wins in '08. I was
loving MM's aggression in '07. There are numerous posts were I was praising him as an elite Coach.
Then in '08, we started playing not to lose and what happened? We lost 10 games. Yes, the majority of our losses were attributed to our DL, but still, at least a few of those games could have been won if we played more aggressively on Offense.
In my not so humble opinion (I am convinced I am right on this and no amount of arguing is going to change my mind), we actually did a disservice to Aaron by making him play with one hand behind his back.
Aaron was the shit in '08, and I was very proud of him. Mike McCarthy handicapped him and if he does it again in '09, I will be calling for MM's dismissal before the '10 season starts.
