Who's trying to poke holes in Dom Capers?

You stated something that wasn't true. Because I called you on it, and didn't just let your fib slide by, I'm poking holes at Dom Capers?

I haven't watched that game but twice.. I get so wound up at Sanders stubbornness on display.. no adjustments whatsoever... grrrrrrr.

Is it being negative or looking for the logic behind the optimism?

I don't think Dom Capers can turn this defense around because I think their is a talent problem. I worry about our aging corners. Harris's decline has started and C-Wood is bound to slow down sometime. I don't know what Raji will bring to the table as a rookie or how Kampman will adjust. Will Hawk break out? Will Barnett be at 100% and improve on his past mistakes?

Their are lots of ????? on Defense. If you put a tarp over a leaky roof does it solve the problem or just make it look like you made an attempt to do so. Sanders was a god to most in 07 and now he's the fall guy. I think the talent, and lack of depth is the problem.

Dom has proven he can get the D to turn around in his 1st season with a team

When Capers took over the 25th-ranked Jaguars defense in 1999, the Jaguars moved up 21 spots in the rankings and led the league in scoring defense.

And when he changed the Dolphins to a 3-4 in 2006, they went from 18th to fourth in the defensive rankings.

I am so jacked about this defenses "potential" I could suit up today and just hit something.. lol.. then pay for it for a couple of days. ;)

After reading this I wonder if D80 still is not optimistic for the D in 09?

"dd80forever" wrote:

Well, you wondered so don't kill me for what I'm going to answer.

I think Capers upgrades the staff as a whole. I think basically Teddy hired another "head coach" because the sweathog Mike McCarthy isn't capable on his own. I think he will give Mike McCarthy some suggestions and work on much more than the defense alone. In this case, it was a good move.

As far as a Def. Coord. I am not sold. Let's not forget Dom was the Def. Coord in Miami when they went 1-15. The Defense wasn't really void of talent, yet it ranked 24th. After he left it jumped up to 15th. We'll see how it goes here.

Ted is trying, I will give him that but it's eerily similar to Donatell getting the axe before it fell on Sherman.

We'll see, I personally don't think the scheme or the coaching is the problem. I think it's a overestimation of talent.

Here's your poking holes and it's a completely laughable post anyhow. Teddy hired Capers? Who fired Sanders? All this time I thought Mike McCarthy got to hire his own staff. Like Dom Capers is going to give suggestions to Mike McCarthy about how to run the offense or any other phase other than defense. I would suggest that would be the last suggestion he ever makes and highly doubt he will ever see the door to an offensive meeting or any other phase than defense period.

Of course you had to find some way to throw in the negatives you always find the angle for.

Also, I fibbed nothing. I said Capers was able to retain the position he had retained prior to being a HC which is DC. The fact he opted out of that spot last year with Dallas and took the position he did with NE was his choice.

We're talking about the HIRE. You HIRE the best guy out there that has shown he knows what the hell he's doing. So this "wait and see" garbage is meaningless because thats the same no matter who you hire.

The dang question is was it a good HIRE or not? Do you want Sanders in there? Somebody else in there? Or, Capers in there knowing what you know about all the candidates available? AFTER THAT you "wait and see" how it turns out but the decision to hire whoever it is was based on the fact this guy is solid DC material in the first place.

Were not the Giants poised to hire him? Do you think they were about to let just anybody screw with that defense?

The fact your not convinced is predictable because your self proclaimed position here is to question every coach, every player, every draft pick, and every move or non-move this team makes.

Courageous people are not afraid of MAKING A DECISION knowing full well they won't be right all the time but willing to work thru mistakes and setbacks to succeed understanding full well less courageous souls will be at their ready to point out all their failures for them.

Down here in the south we call those piss ants.

At least Capers has no problem keeping his place no lower than DC which is what he is anyhow.

Ummmmm, Ok

Can you tell me what Capers job was last year?

Check your facts

"warhawk" wrote:

Your referring to the fact he went with NE in another capacity vs. excepting the DC job in Dallas? He ELECTED to do that. He didn't have to resolve himself to a job lower than what he was before being a HC.

Or maybe the fact he was on the top of the list of the Giants means nothing either.

You trying to punch holes in this guy is just typical you stretching as far as you have to in order to add some negativity in every decision made by this team regardless of how weak the arguement may be.

Whatever. Maybe you ought to read the original post before you make judgement. I said "Capers has no problem maintaining his position no lower than a DC."

Tell me there is any evidence otherwise. Anywhere.

This whole discussion was in the vein of what the team has done to give us a better chance to improve and the coaching changes were brought up. I simply made the point if your going to make a change you go for a quality guy and the fact Capers did not make it as a HC does not mean teams don't see his value as a DC vs Sanders who is now a Line Coach. It says what people in the NFL are thinking and tells me we made an upgrade move there.
I mean do you ever think Bob Sanders is going to be offered a job by Dallas or be the first name brought up by the NYG's?

Show me where I've made an errornous statement anywhere.

Of course I can understand how the simpliest of statements cannot be processed by somebody that doesn't even understand Ted Thompson doesn't hire McCarthy's coaching staff in the first place.

I have finally figured out what my biggest "worry" is.

Aaron and Co will have stellar season, make a deep run in the playoffs and no one will have any reason to make up the Ted vs. Brett conspiracy theories.

And thus it will get so boring around here. :bigsmurf:

Ray Rhodes was an awesome assistant, I think we all could agree on that

But was he a good or even average head coach?

I'm still going to dislike Ted even if we win the Super Bowl. That's not to say I don't want him as my GM though. I'd just prefer he not be so damn cryptic! Although I do understand he has to be with somethings. It's mainly the response 'i dont know' when asked why he let someone go. That drives me crazy!
