Clay Matthews (OLB)
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 240
College: Southern Cal
Conference: Pac 10
Hometown: Agoura Hills, CA
High School: Agoura

Combine Results:
40 Yard Dash : 4.67 seconds
Bench Press : 23.0 reps
Vertical Jump : 35.5 inches
Broad Jump : 121.0 inches
3 Cone Drill : 6.9 seconds
20 Yard Shuttle : 4.18 seconds

Pick Analysis: The Packers add a versatile outside linebacker to their 3-4. Matthews' multi-dimensional game serves as the perfect complement to Aaron Kampman. As a credible rushing threat with underrated cover skills, Matthews gives Dom Capers the ability to mix and match rush schemes. Though he only spent one season as a starter in college, he has the potential to be a solid pro in the Packers' defense.
Circular Arguments: They are a heck of an annoyance

I loved watching him play last year. those USC backers were insane. The question i have nagging at me is whether Matthews was really that good, or if the 3 guys all just elevated each others' games??? that's not a bad thing, but I hope I can continue to be impressed with matthews.

Packers look like they're really going to have a defensive turnaround this year, or at least the beginning of a solid foundation on D. You guys must be happy...meanwhile in Foxboro..haha. Reading up on Patrick Chung.

I'm still happy with getting Clay Matthews. We give up a free pick along with a 2nd and 3rd for some one we could really use for our def. Thompson is doing his job and drafting players we need so far and decent ones too. We didn't have problems scoring last year but did have problems preventing it. Ya we could of used some of those picks for a O line but overall I think we needed more work on our def. WoOo HOoOo for getting Matthews!

I'm liking this pick. We got 2 1sts, including a run stuffer and a guy who can generate pressure. So why were we 6-10 last year? Oh yeah, we could neither stop the run nor generate pressure.

Let's not forget we scored 419 points last year and 435 the year before. The O is not the problem. Our problem is our D, specifically not being able to stop the run nor generate pressure.

As mad as I was at Ted Thompson for '08, I'm really liking him in '09 so far. Good job, TT. Can't wait for the season to start now.

I can not imagine that a GM of any professional team would use a # 1 pick based on old family ties of any kind.

I am sure Clay can be a pass rush specialist. I do not know yet if he is an every down NFL type LB.

Matthews wasn't going to be their at 41 so moving up to get him makes sense. I'm a little surprised Green Bay gave up that much though. That's a lot to pay, but again, if these guys produce, it's not that bad.

At least he didn't trade up to get a punter.

I thought he was trading up to grab Britton and was floored by the Matthews pick. We now have at linebacker:

Kampman - Thompson - Hunter
Barnett - Bishop
Hawk - Chiller - Lansanah
Poppinga - Matthews - Havner

Does anyone expect a trade tomorrow for a third round OT?

I would have rather taken Maulauga.

Solid pick though, we jus gave a little too much. I think Matthews will contribute. I also expect us to trade up early tomorrow, atleast I'm hoping.

wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
Zero2Cool (24-Jun) : Yawn. Rodgers says he is "pretty sure" this be final season.

Zero2Cool (19-Jun) : According to Tweeter

dfosterf (11-Jun) : There will be a mini camp practice Thursday.
Zero2Cool (11-Jun) : He's been sporting a ring for a while now. It's probably Madonna.
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : We only do the tea before whoopee, it relaxes me.
