RP, I have NO problem with the amount of money they make. That's not the issue here. But he is under contract. He is property of the Packers. If he wants to explore his free agent options after this season, then more power to him. If the Vikings offer him $1 more and he wants to go there, more power to him.

But right now he is just acting like a spoiled little punk. There's a new scheme to learn. And he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway, so he needs to get his ass the GB with his TEAM.

I agree with you 100%

He is under contract.

But a contract means shit in the NFL because other players have been allowed by owners to GET OUT OF CONTRACTS.

Heretofore the precedent has been set, just like it has been set in every business. There are rules and there is opportunity.

I hate it as much as you.... But those are the play ground rules, set by owners and players on the NFL Playground.

DO NOT BLAME HIM OR HIS AGENT.

We can not call him "Scum of the earth." for playing by the rules. Rules and Guidelines set forth by previous history and negotiation success in this business called Professional Football. He and his agent are just doing what is best for the the long term for a NFL Player.

They are following the rules of the money game set forth by owners. Not Players.

I may be wrong on this topic, and I often am wrong. However that is my opinion.

Take the best and leave the rest.

I guess I'm somewhere in between IM and RP on this one - I absolutely agree with RP on the money angle - the NFL as an industry makes staggering coin, and a LOT of these guys will get one payday, maybe two, and then nothing. Then they'll be out in the real world and likely ill-equipped to deal with it. I'm not saying we should all be crying in our beers for the poor widdle football players, but I have no problem with them getting paid handsomely for their efforts. And looking for a new contract with under 2 years left on your current one, especially after a pro-bowl season, is S.O.P., whether we fans like it or not.

BUT. He's not doing himself any good by staying away, even if the only issue is his financial well-being - if he doesn't see the field or plays like crap because he lost out on the opportunity to learn the new system, he's never going to see the huge payday he's looking for. It's also shitty team-wise, because they obviously want/need him there participating and learning along with the rest of the D.

I'm not going to really worry unless/until he actually holds out of mandatory activities, but this is a poor move that's only going to backfire on him, IMO.

The Pro-Bowl nod just gave him the ammunition to do this. I predict Nick Collins will not be a Packer in a few years

It'll be interesting to see if my (crappy) prediction of Jenkins @ the 9 sport plays out tomorrow - if it does, that certainly softens the blow if you're right.
