Mike McCarthy's "play not to lose" attitude cost The Packers more than the breaks going one way or the other.

Everyone is saying Aaron Rodgers is our franchise QB, only if Mike McCarthy let's him.

Aaron Rodgers...2009...5000+passing yds,35 td's,15int's.

Packers go 10-6 and win The North!!!

Mark it down, with the recent qb changes in the North, Mike McCarthy is going to have to let Aaron Rodgers be the qb we all know he can be!!!!

Wouldn't that be something. DD 1200 Yards, Gregorius 1500 Yards, Finley 600 Yards, Nelson 600 Yards and Jones 600 Yards and some for Lee, Jackson etc.

But seriously, I agree with you on the playing it safe part. I asume McCarthy was trying to somewhat protect his first year QB or so, but he was one of the best in the red-zone and, combined with some YAC from Jordy, DD and GJ, got us 1st downs. Yet, everytime we tried for a -2 yard run, 4 yard run, 2 yard screen to Jackson. Quite frustrating.

Had McCarthy not been so conservative in the red zone, we wouldn't have been in a position the have to make game winning field goals. Just sayin..

Let me try and explain this. I have been saying for more than a year now"the playmakers on this Packer team are the Wide Receivers".
The running game at best is average.
The Packers want to win, they need to put their playmakers on the field, let Aaron Rodgers do his thing, and I will bet that the running game will all of a sudden become more lethal.
Most team try to set up the pass with the run, as of right now, The Packers are better off setting up the run with the pass, not to mention Aaron Rodgers is still agile enough to scramble and get some rushing yards.
Mike McCarthy sooner or later is going to have to let Aaron Rodgers BE THE FRANCHISE QB everyone wants him to be. Playing it safe in close games, with a questionalble defense, didn't get it done in 2008, why would anyone expect it to work in 2009?

The Packers have the talent on offense to outscore most NFL teams, until Capers gets the defense re-organized, let Aaron Rodgers put up the numbers that he is capable of, and don't back off once you have a lead.

I am saying for The Packers to go 10-6 or better, Mike McCarthy is going to have to change his "play not to lose philosphy".

Ok i can't believe this but i'm going to defend Mike McCarthy on this one. Everyone is saying Mike McCarthy is being conservative; but i know it was posted somewhere that Mike McCarthy has said Rodgers goes up to the line with a run/ pass option so is it really all on MM?

I'm just bringing up a point that someone had quoted on this site, that Rodgers has a run/pass option because i remember making a comment against Mike McCarthy saying that he was throwing his qb under the bus at the time. I would defend Rodgers before Mike McCarthy you should know that by now.

I don't think every play has a run/pass option that is as easy to switch to as you are thinking. What if the defense shifts formation with 3 on the play clock? You can't switch it up that fast.

We'll say he can go Pass or Run on every play. How feasible is that? Defense's often times don't show their tell until the later seconds. Now if you are going to throw Rodgers under the bus because coach called a run and he didn't automatically go pass, that's wrong. He'd be labeled uncoachable then. Rodgers is NO Peyton Mannning, he shouldn't be calling his plays at the line. Favre yes, Rodgers, no.

The shitty play calling is on McCarthy, period.

Zero i don't recall all the facts but i remember it was after one of the late game losses when someone asked Mike McCarthy if he called the plays at the end and he said that Aaron Rodgers has the run/pass option when he gets to the line. I wasn't throwing Rodgers under the bus i was standing up for him and said Mike McCarthy was throwing him under to protect his ass. If i get time later ill search the forums and see if i can find the thread.

beast (8h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (8h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (18h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (18h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (20h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (21h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22h) : Thank you
wpr (22h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (23h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (23h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (23h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (23h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (23h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
