I have been a big Ted Thompson supporter, but he has to realize that at somepoint he has to open up the wallet to bring players in. He has done a great job with getting the core of the team together, but for freakin sake he needs to spend some money and bring some people in to give the team a boost.

The player has to want to come, Ted Thompson can't snap his fingers and make up a players mind for them. Canty is from the east coast and wanted to play on the east coast, it's as simple as that.

Hey Zero as far as your comment in the Reggie White thread, you forget when Moss was a FA Brett offered to pay for his contract and Ted Thompson didn't even acknowledged it and said Brett was a liar. No FA wants to come to GB because of tightwad Ted. This will probably be the only thread going now till the draft seeing Ted Thompson proved he won't sign a FA.

Brett did NOT offer to pay Moss' contract, he offered to restructure his contract to allow more cap room for Moss and drop a few million to help cushion the cap blow.

That's how I was told of it and read it. I could be wrong, but no where did Brett ever say he was going to foot the bill entirely for Moss'.

Ted and other members of the staff (Brandt as well I believe) said they went to bed that night believing Moss was going to be a Packer the next day. The Patriots chimed in with a lil better draft pick and the Raiders never gave the Packers a chance to match or improve the offer. Ted was not happy about it.

This has been covered SEVERAL times, why must you continue to be so damn blind to it? Are you THAT bored this off season you have to start making things up?

I'm bummed. I thought Green Bay had a shot at Canty. Maybe this means that Olshansky will be brought in, provided he hasn't signed yet. I don't think he has, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's face reality here.

Free Agency for the Green Bay Packers is not as simple as for some other teams. There are very few reasons to come to Green Bay outside of a large lucrative contract. Most people either do not originate from the Wisconsin area, dislike all that cold and the outdoor stadium, or have no interest in the "nightlife" in Green Bay when they can enjoy NY. One of the reasons that people did come here was to play with Favre, but that reason's now replaced with playing in a 3-4 defense. But then, this will be our first season in a 3-4 and likely that many players would be wary of whether we can be successful or not in the scheme. Why would they take that chance with us?

Hence, the only way to lure a free agent to Green Bay is to overpay relative to the potential amount that we could have paid for that player, if we were in a bigger market.

It is no secret that Ted Thompson likes to build through the draft and spend a minimal amount on players. Considering the potential for an uncapped 2010 season when player salaries could skyrocket, it certainly is a good idea not to be stuck in a salary cap problem heading into that season.

I'm not unhappy that Cole has left or Canty wasn't signed. As I mentioned earlier, I believe this could imply that we'll be taking a stronger look at BJ Raji, who I'd take in a heartbeat over those two.
