This kid shows imo exactly what Aaron means by "simplify." These routes are not supposed to be run exactly as they are drawn on paper.
Like with Christian Watson on that first drop against the Vikings, and Doubs in the Preseason on those loops down the right sideline, they don't just run down the field, they fade the route to the sideline to get more separation from the safety in the middle.
Do you want them to cut outside instead of inside, if the CB gives them the sideline? Do you want them to just find a spot in the zone and sit? Both QB and WR have to see it, and be on the same page as to how to adjust on the fly.
That comes with time. Not sure you can pick up even a veteran from another team and expect that dude to "be on the same page."
I think the rookies are doing pretty decent with that, all things considered. What Aaron means by "simplify" is for the guys to run the routes AS DRAWN on paper. Just do it regular, let's cut that extra little bit of separation to make sure the ball goes to where the WR is. It's almost like he's advocating Matt's system, instead of running his own sandlot shit.
THIS is why Aaron has seemed inaccurate, especially on the deep throws. He's throwing the ball to where the WR should fade to, or where the guy should cut, not to where he's going. This is why Aaron needs to "trust" his guys before he wants to throw to them.
Aaron's still got it, the guys just aren't freelancing the way he wants them too. And Watkins doesn't seem to know the playbook. Hence Aaron's statement about sitting guys down if there are mental errors.
