Linebacker Christian Kirksey left the Packers win over the Saints in the second quarter and apparently won’t be returning any time soon. Christian Kirksey ’s shoulder injury is likely to keep him out for several weeks according to a report from ESPN’s Rob Demovsky .
Per Demovsky, Kirksey ’s injury won’t require surgery but he’s expected to miss the next few games. The Packers face Atlanta on Monday, then have a bye week in Week 5.
Kirksey left the Packers ’ win over the Saints in the second quarter, leaving the defense to survive with Khrys Barnes, Ty Summers , and Oren Burks picking up the slack in the middle. The results were mixed, at best. The Saints, true to their form through the first two weeks of the season, attacked the middle of the field with Alvin Kamara , and he found plenty of room to roam, piling up a career-high 139 yards and two touchdowns on 13 receptions.
The Packers will likely turn to Barnes, Summers and Burks for the foreseeable future, though fellow inside linebacker Kamal Martin is eligible to return from injured reserve as of this week. He was placed on injured reserve late in training camp with a knee injury, and it’s not clear how close to a return he may be, though indications at the time seemed to point to a stay of longer than just three weeks.
De’Jon Harris is also an option on the practice squad, though he seems more likely to serve as a potential special teams replacement, freeing up Barnes, Summers, or Burks to spend more time on defense.
