The NFL's oldest rivalry could be set to open the new season. Usually, the season-opening Thursday Kickoff Game is hosted by the defending Super Bowl champions. But that could be set to change for the 2019 season. According to Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune, the Green Bay Packers "will likely' play on the road against

This would be different... usually the Super Bowl winning team host the first game in the new season, but with it being the NFL's 100th year, they could have a Packers/Bears match-up to open the season instead? Interesting...

My first thought, was no way this is happening, they're going to have the traditional Super Bowl team opening... but they could potential do something special/different for the 100th year... plus maybe trying to avoid Rams beat the Saints game or Patriots again stuff.

This would hurt in making finals cuts and then switching to a game right away... but it'd give an advantage in more rest and film work going into week 2... which I think the advantage outweighs the negative.

I hope we do open on a Thursday at the Bears...
• They will not have seen our new offense
They will be overly hyped
When we win they will be crest-fallen
It is a mini-bye with the abiity to have 3 extra days to prepare for our next opponent and work out chinks in the armour.
If you have to play on Thursday this game or the Thursday after your bye is the one you want.

This wouldn't be a bad thing.
Packers get to start April 1st, 2 weeks earlier .

Everyone knows there won't be any starters playing the last preseason game.

Plenty of time to get ready for Bears.

I sure hope The NFL is a little nicer to The Packers this year with the schedule.

Last year was a little ridiculous.

Gimme the first Thursday game, a Sunday Night game and a Monday night game.

The rest could be early Sunday games if it were up to me.
Late game when we go out West.

Have a feeling Packers are due to play on Thanksgiving Day.

That would be 2 Thursday games.

    Not afraid of the Bears.

Somebody give the heads up to LeFleur. They always stick the new coach with Thanksgiving games at Detroit, until that coaches catches on and tells them to stuff it.

The opponents were rough, but those are predetermined...

Just like next year we're facing the NFC East and AFC West which are tough... as well as Panthers and 49ers who might have their starting QBs healthy again, so next year schedule is gonna be tough opponent wise.

Yeah I miss the Packers playing on Thanksgiving... it feels like it's been a while....

Random side note, I HATE that the Lions/Cowboys each get a game every single freaking year... I probably wouldn't mind, other than they have the same exact colors (blue/sliver), so every Thanksgiving it's the same colors for 6 hours of (66% of the time)... at the very least make sure to put the third game in the middle in between these two, to break it up somewhat.
