All the people that are blaming Ted Thompson for letting Favre go, and blaming Rodgers for the team sucking this year..........our defense has already given up more points then all of last season. I don't believe Favre would have done any better then AR in this situation. Our D has sucked, our special teams have sucked.
If we don't fix those right now, our season is over.
The future looks good, but unless they fix the 2 major faults i just pointed out, we won't be going anywhere.

first of all i dont understand your Wahle reference? getting rid of those two lineman were some of his best moves. He didnt over pay two declining O lineman. He hasn't replaced them with standouts sure... but letting Wahle go was a great move. He would have added nothing, except a salary cap killing contract.

and im not talking about what ifs. Ted did have equal part in the Favre situation and many other GM's might not have done it that way. My point is the Favre retirement was coming anyway. Any GM would have had to handle it. It got nasty in the end sure, but this team on the playing field has not suffered at all because of his retirement.

My point is... we were rock bottom. 4-12 with an ugly roster and i happen to agree with him that the best way to fix all that was through youth and intelligent scouting. I still don't think that process can be given such a short time line... Favre acclerated the time line with a 13-3 record last season but it still has to be considered, where we were roster wise... and where we are. and I just don't see how doing it any other way would have made things better.

I used it as an example.. not whether he should have stayed or not.. just a different GM would have maybe done it differently. Nothing more.

I think maybe I didn't state my point well enough.. it can't be said that a different GM would or would not have had a equal record.

Way to many variables in there.

I think he has done a good job building the roster... but he and MM are accountable for this season.. they have been here planning for this for a couple years.. so it falls no where else but Ted, MM and the entire staff.

We are a good team struggling to close out the small things to become a top notch team.. no time to blow the thing up, but equally not a time to utilize excuses.

We have some work to do yet this season and into the off season.

Oh i definitely agree, especially with this gem of a line. "no time to blow things up, but equally not a time to utilize excuses." I love that. In fact our arguments lately have set a nice balance I think... the Packers aren't perfect, but they don't need to be blown up either. Just need to carry on like we have been doing, getting better through competition and smart FO moves.

One excuse that I do think is fair is the injury excuse. I know a good team is prepared for injuries as they are a part of the game. But i do think there is a limit to how much a team can take.

But like you said... no time to dwell on that. We (even though I still think we will get into the playoffs) need to fix the D-line issues and O-line issues in the offseason. I also feel like this is just one of them years and I don't expect it to carry over to the next term.

Yah..but who built the defense, Cheesey?

Answer me that, Riddler...answer me that!

PS...Favre would have done way better than AROD based on experience alone and his ability to read the Defense better..and make decisions.

Would we have had the Favre Fiasco without Ted in charge?

Would we have the same team makeup?

I am not one to buy into the no other GM could have managed a .500 record through the past 4 years.. the variables would have been so different and some things might not have come to pass.

Like.. would another GM have gone the route of all youth and little in FA?

Or would he have reworked contracts to keep Wahle for example?

This is not pinning anything on him, just I don't think that argument is valid.

Something like.. what if the Packers had drafted Barry Sanders? Would Brett and the 96 team ever developed, would have Braatz been shown the door and Wolf injected...

What ifs.. all you can do is look at the record and what has taken place on his watch... because with somebody else, the events would have transpired differently.

Somethings Ted had a equal part in creating.. so he has to be accountable for the results as well.

But if you mistake that for me complaining about Ted. not even close.. we have a deep talented team for the most part.. it is extracting the talent that we are struggling with currently.

Great post z people are making excuses for Ted Thompson MM and Rodgers its all everyone elses fault. I look at the won-loss records to judge coaches and gms but alot of posters on this site don't. I also use it to judge qbs those are the main stats that count at the end of the day.

i gave you a +1 :thumbright: for your post
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
