I have been a loyal Packer fan for over 56 years. That is longer than most of you have been alive. I watched Lombardi's Packers dominate the NFL and suffered through the lean seasons as well. Living in Va., I had to grin and bear it when the Redskins were winning and suddenly everyone around me became instant Redskin fans. I was a witness to Joe Namath's (AFL) Jets beat the Colts in SB3. I saw Jim Brown play football. I watched Pittsburgh's immaculate reception as it happened. I drank beer in a bar as the 85 Bears lost to Dan Marino and the Dolphins on MNF. I was watching when Makowski went down and Favre replaced him as GB's QB. I've seen Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Tony Dorsett suspend time itself as they evaded tackles.

Bottom line, I've seen teams that have cared and built SB teams. I've also seen teams that fill a roster, field a team, and pocket the profits. That said, I again see GB not trying to hire star players, but collect enough to maintain the status quo. Immediately the excuses are offered for the drafted player. He is a great physical player, "but" he is going to be a "project" or he may be small, "but" he has great "speed". We passed on higher rated players, "but" we did draft these average players.

GB went from good to great when Reggie White was hired and GB went on to win a SB. It helped that Bret Favre, and other stars were on the roster. Yes a team can get lucky with a player, yet generally if a player excels on the College Level then they have a good chance of being a star on the professional level.

From what I've been seeing, GB has not drafted a big name player in decades or gone into the FA market to get an Antonio Brown or an Odell Beckham Jr. or a Khalil Mack. I believe it was pure luck that drafted Aaron Rodgers.

I question the decisions that, in my 5+ decades as a Packer fan, are not doing/using the resources available to build a Championship roster. I see ordinary/average players being hired instead of trying to grab the gold ring.

Is GB trying to build championship winning teams or are the just filling roster slots.

There's definitely a plan here.

Gary was taken, because he can "do it all." Jack of all trades, master of none. The master of none part is debatable. But he's not a project in that sense.

Sternberger is a project to an extent. But any TE will take a year. This dude can RUN. The clips I saw, showed him blocking ok. But a lot of people panned his blocking. He will be ok. I like him.

The C we drafted in the 3rd is for the zone blocking scheme. This team is coming together. Would like to see a RB, but don't see a ton of options left. The depth and value here is at WR.

But make no mistake, these picks all follow a specific plan. This D is going to be tough. Might take another CB here too btw.

Nerd, I understand how it is to be young and not be willing to say that failure is possible. I would like nothing more than to be dancing in the streets over each trade, draft pick, an FA move that GB makes (as many do), yet my years have already seen the mistakes that teams can make. Some say to draft the best player available, but if your roster does not need another player at that position, then picking that player is a mistake.

Yes I get irritated when I see GB pass on two higher rated TEs only to take a lesser rated one in the later rounds. I dearly wanted to see GB pick Benardrick McKinney LB some years back, today he is a Pro-Bowl Linebacker for the Texans.

GB passed on drafting Noah Fant and Irv Smith Jr, both TEs. I say today that GB will regret passing on them to take Sternburger in the 3rd round. Fant and Smith were both rated as better TE picks.

Say what you will, but I recognise a tightwad when I see one. My father was a tightwad and it was one of his worst flaws. It burns me up when GB trains a player, only to loose them because the team was unwilling to pay them what they are worth. Yes Rodgers is an exception, loosing an OG or a DT because they are cheap, just says volumes about what is most important, winning or money. Well I want a 5th SB Trophy for the Packers.

I lived through the same ups and downs.
There are several teams that haven’t won even ONE super bowl.
Do I want the Packers to win another super bowl? Of course!
And I have no control over who they do or don’t sign.
If you are that worked up, then maybe you should consider changing who you root for. Maybe become a Patriots fan.

I myself will remain a Packers fan for life. Win or lose.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
