Lets not lose track of the fact that McCarthy and Thompson brought a 4-12 team to 8-8 and then 14-4, before this year's mediocre 5-7. I am inclined to believe this season is an aberration of what is an otherwise solid football team.

I also do not believe last year's record was a fluke. That team earned the 14-4 record, in the same way this year's team will earn whatever record it ends up with. Saying that last year's record is a fluke is to attribute some of that success to chance or luck. I hate to bring luck in as a variable because that is an easy excuse to make - we were solid last year and we're less so this year, for many reasons which most people are aware of.

I think there has to be a certain amount of luck for any team to reach the top.
You have to be lucky enough not to have alot of injuries.

You have to be lucky enough to get some favorable calls that can affect outcomes.

You have to get some lucky bouces of the ball.

Certainly you have to have a solid team with solid coaching but luck has to be factored into any teams success.

Couple of things i thought were interesting. I typed "Ted Thompson" in the search bar on yahoo.com. First thing that comes up in the search help area is "Fire Ted Thompson"

Anyway, you're wrong about him "taking a 4-12 team to 8-8 and then 14-4, before this year's mediocre 5-7".

Thompson took over right after the 2004 season which we were 10-6. In fact we were no worse than 10-6 for 4 years before Ted Thompson came to town. After Ted Thompson took over, and took all Favres support away, he had his worst season ever and the packers won 4 games. Once he gave Favre some of the support take away from him, they went 8-8, 13-3. Dumped Favre adn you see what we now have.

I'm tired of hearing you guys with your excuses. Rodgers has 3-5 good receivers and an O-line which is intact from last year and should be improving. Regardless of how bad the defense was, when Favre had his weapons the team won. If Favre had come back here, i truly believe it would have been the best season of his career. I think he would end the year with about 40td's and well over 100 rating. The only reason you dont see it on the Jets is because he has 3 months chemistry with them and their playbook. He has 17 years of familiarity in Green Bay and a lot of chemistry with the receivers. We would be 9-3 at worst with him and on our way to a first round bye. Instead, we're talking about draft picks and free agency. Man up and realize that that grey haired freak is the Grinch who stole our season.....again!!!

This IDIOT gives Aaron Rodgers a HUGE contract after proving nothing. Why didnt we wrap up Jennings with some of that money and use up this years cap space for that? Or maybe signe a free agent we could use at o-line or cornerback or veteran qb or linebacker. Instead of going to pick and pay to get Chillars, maybe he could have spent a little money on a quality pass coverage linebacker.

Our offensive & defensive lines are pathetic because this grey haired fool takes good draft picks and trades them down 100 times and fills the most important position on the team (o-line) with 27th rounders. Guys who were tackles in college and he wants them to play guard. Or vice versa. Guys who are projects like Harrell who have been injured and are soft. Maybe if we had some lineman, we could run the ball or protect our new 65million dollar quarterback. Hmm, nahh, why would we want to do that.

See, the problem is this, he does nto have the confidence in his drafting ability which is why he stockpiles a bunch of picks so that hopefully one will work out. If he doesnt have the ability to see the real talent in the draft, maybe he shouldnt be handling it. I'll give him some credit. He did draft jennings and he's turning out to be good and i like Brandon Jackson pick. Other than that, i'm not gonna give the guy credit for re-signing a player we already have. AJ hawk for a #5 pick is a huge dissapointment. I guess you cant blame a guy for where somebody drafted him. If he were a late 2nd or 3rd rounder i'd be like "great pick". But you expect a game changer up that high for that much money. A couple of good draft picks does not make up for how he handled the Favre & Moss situations or for all of his mediocre/bad draft picks. It just doesnt.

Why would he fill the roster with a bunch of mediocre player and a first year qb backed up by 2 rookies ? Why would anyone expect this team to win more than 6 or 7 games as i said before the season? Are you kidding me? And some of you basically get down on all fours and lick his ass. What's wrong with you.

Let's start saying this ... Favre didn't get dumped, Favre retired. (I will not be getting back in that issue).

On the other hand, the team that was 13-3, which you said if Favre had returned to that team we would have first round bye. Well let me remind you that 3.95/4 of that team was build by TT. It's Aaron Rodgers first season and his playing as good as Brett Favre. Now is it TT's fault that the defense can't stop the run? ... Let me ask you what would of been so difference in the run defense if Brett Favre was here. He would improve the d-line??? Or that kick that Mason Crosby missed, oh ya it's true IF Brett Favre was there he would decide to go hold the ball for the snap so Crosby would of made that kick ... ridiculous.

This is team is not doing bad because Brett Favre is not here, this team is doing bad because the defense just can't stop the offense.

We keep scoring over 25-30 pts per game, but we're getting outscored 35 and over ...

Don't tell me if Brett was here we would keep scoring and win because I have also seen some games that Brett has tried to keep up with scoring and has failed.

Now if you want this team to go playoffs and have a 13-3 season again, you and every other Ted Thompson hater should support them, support Aaron Rodgers, move on from your ex wife / fiance / gf / bf Brett Favre and start realising that Rodgers and Ted Thompson have done a great job here in GB.

Yes everyone does mistakes like the hiring of Frost but sometimes you just got to let it go ... anyways SANDERS NEEDS TO GO and get a specialist in defense a mastermind and you will get your 13-3 team back and maybe even a 16-0 team.

Ok, i stopped right there. He is not playing as well as Favre. His numbers might be as good but he is not playing anywhere near Farves level. Football isnt all about numbers. Defensive tackles are arguably the most important part of a defense but they rarely get any sacks and make the least amount of tackles of any position on the defense. Football isnt all about numbers.

No chance this team is any worse than 9-3 with Favre in there or with a gm who knows what he's doing. you got a first year qb back there TT, where are his o-lineman??? You have all this cap space but our o-line looks like it was pieced together with a bunch of division 2 college players.

I was not speaking about them getting sacks or getting tackles. I'm talking about them stopping the run, stopping the opposing offense for the other team to score. This defense is bad coached simple as that. That is why Aaron Rodgers team that's 5-7 ... and not 8-4 or even 9-3.

I will say however that I, and many others will object to being labelled at your convenience. Not everyone has the same point of view and to umbrella everyone who opposes your view is to show a lack of regard and weakens your argument.

Actually, I don't recall anyone unequivocally supporting Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy here.

Saw this on another forum

With Favre last season, the Packers had scored 152 points in the first 2 quarters through the first 12 games. They had let up 115 points in that same time span.

This season, with Rodgers, the Packers have scored 146 points in the first 2 quarters through the first 12 games. They have given up 141 points in the first 2 quarters of these same 12 games.

through 12 games the Packers under Rodgers have only failed to score 6 points (one freakin TD) less than Favre's Packers last season . ONE TD difference at half time in 12 games!!!

The defense, however, in the first half this season has allowed an additional 26 points over what last years team did. So the defense early in games this season is worse than the defense early in games last season.

And that is strictly point scored by the offense, no D touchdowns included in on that

No chance this team is any worse than 9-3 with Favre in there or with a gm who knows what he's doing.

"Gravedigga" wrote:

If Favre was still here, we wouldn't even be 5-7.
We'd probably be 2-10 because Favre would be throwing "rocket balls" all over the place trying to make up for our lousy defense and special teams.
He'd be intercepted 30 times by now.

There.............see how easy it is to throw out BS, when you KNOW you can't prove any of it either way?
You can SAY we would be better, but based on what??? Last season? Or how Favre is playing in NY? He has a different team there, a strong defense. A couple years ago he was 4-12 here. Remember that? It wasn't that long ago. Why was out won-lost record so lousy that year? Favre WAS the QB here, wasn't he? By your thought process, it never should have happened, cause BRETT FAVRE WAS HERE!
But it DID happen.
Other then ALMOST making it to the SB last year, how close did we get to it the previous 10 years?
And that was with BF here.
You try to make the guy out to be some kind of a god, but he's ONLY a football player. He hasn't done that great since we won SB 31 and lost SB 32.
He's still a good player. But not as almighty as you try to make him out to be.
