Look at teams that have a consistent good pass rush. They have a solid DL that makes their OLB better. Rarely do you see the OLB carrying the load like that. Let's get a stout DL and build outwards.

And based on this article, it would seem the Packers are splitting the two, as Olivadotti was announced as the ILB coach.

The Green Bay Packers have named Kirk Olivadotti inside linebackers coach, Justin Outten tight ends coach and Adam Stenavich offensive line coach. Head Coach Matt LaFleur made the announcements Thursday.

So the Packers still need a ST coordinator, WR, OLB and possible another DB coach still, this is not counting assistants...

Seems like only questionable ST coaches are left...

Packers interviewed Tom Quinn for special teams coordinator job, per report

Under Quinn, the Giants’ special teams units were all over the map. According to Rick Gosselin’s annual rankings the Giants finished as high as second (in 2015) and as low as 32nd (2017). Quinn oversaw two top-five units and three top-ten squads, while seeing his groups finish in the bottom five of the NFL three times as well. Here are the Giants’ places in those rankings over Quinn’s tenure:

2007: 17th
2008: 4th
2009: 20th
2010: 30th
2011: 22nd
2012: 7th
2013: 28th
2014: 25th
2015: 2nd
2016: 18th
2017: 32nd

Can't fault ST coaches too hard on just stats. For them, it's nearly an entirely new roster every single year, made up of guys who are build to play offense or defense, rather than ST.

Next to that, those rankings are such a convoluted mess  that it's hard to say what throws a STs unit down the rankings and what propels it up.

Those 2017 rankings are utterly horrible, but the fact that they had a rookie kicker make just 15 of 22 of his kicks under 50 yards and missed 3 XPs, and that they had a punter who averaged just 36.7 net per punt before getting cut after the season absolutely destroy the ST-rankings. Especially since they had 4 blocked kicks between them.

OLB: Mike Smith - 37

Looks like he's worked with Mike Pettine

I would think D Coordinators would have full control over who their assistants are.

The Packers need a WR coach... and Wes Welker has interviewed with the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers

Welker has been an "Offensive assistant" the last two years with the Texans, it's thought his contract is up (because the Texans have seemingly been blocking all interviews with their coaches, but can't block if the contract is up).

Also the Packers were interested in Shawn Jefferson for WR coach, but he stayed with Adam Gase and signed with the Jets.

Alvis Whitted for WR coach? Also Shawn Mennenga for ST coordinator?

Packers are said to interview Mennenga who was assistant ST coach for the Browns for 7 years including when Pettine was head coach. Spent last season with Vanderbilt. Seems like slim pickings for ST coordinator, and the entire NFC North might have new ST coordinators.

Alvis Whitted played 9 years in the NFL, split between Jaguars and Raiders. In his carrer he got got 74 catches, for 1,030 yards (so STer/back-up), went to the Superbowl (loss) with the Raiders. Four years teammates with Woodson.

Colorado State WR Coach since 2012.

Alvis Whitted participated in the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials, where he finished sixth place in the 200 Meters, with a time of 20.29 seconds, running against Michael Johnson and Carl Lewis.

I guess if I were an aspiring football coach, especially if I wanted to be a head coach, I would not want to do special teams. Lot's of blame, very little glory. Plus, they never seem to get serious consideration for the top job.

I read that wes Welker was ST assistant in Texas land (I also read offensive assistant as well so who knows), so its possible he was an ST option rather than WR option.
