For decades I've watched as the standards of our great country have gradually declined. In this case ratings to generate more public interest (and advertising dollars) are primary motivating factors. I've never liked graphic scenes of violence, but many have for centuries. In fact the Romans turned violence into great shows to entertain the masses.
I don't agree with the use of vulgar language on a regular conversation basis either. To me it demonstrates a lack of vocabulary/self discipline. It's one thing to good naturedly poke fun at another, but too often the line is crossed and negative emotions can escalate. IMO, some are just unhappy with their lot in life and find that the use of offensive language makes them feel better about themselves. Also some feel that the shock value of posting an offensive avatar or picture elevates their statis, it actually lowers my opinion of the poster.
