Yes grant is good, but i think brandon jackson could be much better if given the chance. He is a more explosive back with big play capability, as we have seen today. Jackson is averaging 5.5 yard per carry, that is very good. Grant is averaging under 4... Also, Jackson is a better receiver, if you havnt noticed he comes in on most passing plays. And when he comes in it is pretty obvious its a screen or a pass so it would be much better if mm made him the everydown pack.

Now what to do with grant if this ever happened? (i realize that it probably wont)
I would say that the best thing to do would be to trade him for some good Defensive tackles to help stop the run. And if we couldnt get and good DT's then i think he should be traded for some draft picks.. in order to get some good DT's.

anyone agree? or does everyone love grant..

Disagree. What would Ted Look like benching Grant after that contract extension(not that its Ted's choice, but the man deciding it would not do it)? You don't pay Millions of Dollars to just dump a guy. Jackson has signs of brightness, however has not proven consistent.

If they gave jackson a few more carries a game that would be awesome.

i disagree with his contract extension. jackson is an elusive back.. that is why he gets stuffed in the backfield once in a while. a drive with jackson may look like this : 1 yard run, 2 yard run, 15 yard run, 5 yard run, etc.... obviously grant is more consistant because he is a straight ahead runner, but grant does not have that big play capability like jackson does.

There's no reason why we can't use both. We need to man up and play new era football. The days of an every-down back are gone. All the good teams on the ground have two guys to use.

Tennessee Titans -- LenDale White / Chris Johnson
Atlanta Falcons -- Micheal Turner / Jerious Norwood
Carolina Panthers -- DeAngelo Williams / Jonathan Stewart
New York Jets -- Thomas Jones / Leon Washington
Minnesota Vikings -- Adrian Peterson / Chester Taylor
New York Giants -- Brandon Jacobs / Derrick Ward / Ahmad Bradshaw

Look at San Diego struggling with LaDainian Tomlinson. Look at St. Louis struggling with Steven Jackson. These guys are elite running backs, but they have nobody behind them.

Seriously. Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson have the potential to be just as good.

Exactly my opinion. I think with what Jackson's been showing us we could have a great 1-2 punch at running back.

They should make some sort of adjustment where Jackson gets somewhere around 10 carries a game and Grant gets about 20-25. I know that it's hard if you're losing like the Packers usually are, but maybe if BJax gets the carries we wont be losing.

I agree with blueleopard. Increase the proportion of Brandon Jackson carries so that opposing defensive coordinators have more to game plan against. If we go solely with one back or the other, we severely reduce our versatility.

I really like our three-back set that we've deployed several times this year. An idea I think would be really intriguing would be to develop some option plays in which both Brandon Jackson and Ryan Grant are in the backfield at the same time. I think it would be fun to watch defenses try to grapple with both Jackson's big-play ability to the outside and Grant's up-the-middle smashmouth style.

blueleopard is right, and I've said it before: Split the carries between Grant and Jackson.

After running well for several games, Grant ran poorly today. Maybe it had something to do with whatever injury kept him out for the entire second half. Meanwhile, Jackson gave the offense a jolt of energy.

I have been frustrated all season by McCarthy's reluctance to spread the carries around. Deshawn Wynn should be getting some carries as well.

That's something I've wondered about. Has Wynn gotten a single carry all season? If not, why was he even re-signed?
