Mike has to either win the SB or make a convincing case, or he's headed to Cleveland after this year. One would think that, for once in his life, his team would show up READY TO PLAY.

If we want to keep him, we can expect more of this, regularly.

A win is a win is a win. But this scripted bullshit needs to stop. Vanilla runs up the gut on 1st and 2nd down then frantic 3rd and long attempts for the first like 6 drives... Not gonna work. You have two guys that are above average WRs that also run the ball well, one that could be a starting RB. Yet neither even in the backfield for the first like, 5 drives. You play to your team's strengths, not out of any wishful thinking about what you want your team to be. This team isn't going to be a "Run it 40 times a game and rack up 200+ yards on the ground" team. It's going to be a "sling it around, and if the defense stays in dime then keep/bring Montgomery into the backfield and run it" team. If we want to win at least.

You kinda have to wonder if AR hadn't gotten hurt would the outcome been different. Think about it for a second. The Bears go up by 10, AR is sling the ball around and trying to make everything happen to get back in it. The Bears D simply T's off and our offense gets pummeled. He gets hurt Kizer comes in and Boom we are down by 17, then 20. He comes back and is forced to go to the quick release short passing game and viola (spelled incorrectly intentionally) we win the game. Had he not gotten hurt how long would it have taken them to realize what they were doing was not working? Maybe too late. Maybe never.

I'd like to think that maybe the offense in the second half was a result of adjustments that McCarthy would have made anyway and the injury played less of a role than the announcers made it sound (Heck you would have thought Joe Theisman had returned in his game the way they were talking) but who knows.

On thing is certain, I'm glad we faced them in week 1. Once that defense has a few weeks to work together and Smith returns healthy they will be very good. Yes we took it to them in the second half but I can't help but wonder if Mack and Smith and a few others weren't getting worn out by then.

Props to the defense. They came up big and they were playing with enthusiasm. Clay's stupidity required them to make 2 stops and they did. Less than 300 yards given up (when they had 140 in the first quarter I think) 4 sacks 5 tackles for loss. A few breakdowns but you can expect that from a young team. I'll take this and build on it.

Bottom line its a solid win and even though they started out looking like crap they stayed in there. The bears played a tough game and it shows a lot to come back from that. I kinda wish it had been a 48-0 blowout but now that the victory is in the bag I think I might prefer this. Its one of those character building games. One of those wake up calls without the loss.
