The 2017 draft has been gutted already.
4th round Beigel
5th round Yancey
6th round Amichia
7th round Mays
7th round Dupre (remember how some of you were so excited about him?)

I know low level picks face long odds. Most stay for 2 a few for 3 years. The long odds against them making the team is one of the reasons I don't value picks after the 3rd round. I sorta give a little leeway for 4th and 5th round players but not really.

I won't care if GB ever acquired extra picks in the lower rounds. Waste of time for the most part. There almost seems to be more success as UDFA.

The venerable gentleman raises a good point, one that I've pondered myself in the past. It would be interesting to see a team go two or three years without picking any players below the third round, wheeling and dealing as aggressively as it took to keep all their picks in the first three rounds. Would it make for a better team in the long run, or would it just tie up a ton of dead money in the higher-priced contracts that come with early-round players?

It probably wouldn't be a viable strategy for long, in the sense that the team would be forced to rely heavily on free agency and trades to fill in the gaps, which would get expensive fast. I suppose a team could resort to the undrafted free agent market to compensate, but in the end, how would that be any different than drafting in the later rounds?

Still, it would be an interesting experiment for a team in a "win-now-at-all-cost" mode.

It was a deep draft for WRs this year. Jmon was a 4th, but in a regular draft, might have gone a little higher.

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
